I am applying ED2 to George Washington University. I attend a rigorous boarding school in New England, but am originally from the South. My GPA is out of 6 and it is unweighted a 4.0/6.0. My ACT score is a 30. I have only taken AP Gov, my senior year. I really want to attend GW. My extracurriculars include a paid internship at a PR firm for three summers in a row, Varsity Tennis for all 4 years of high school (Captain Junior and Senior years), Model UN, My Soldier Club Co-Founder, and most recently, an unpaid internship on the Donald Trump Presidential Campaign in Trump Towers in NYC, for over a month. Does working on the current president’s campaign have any influence? I am sure my teacher recs are good, but can I make up for my lack of rigor and dismal GPA?
Please let me know my chances. My intended major is political science, which I am very passionate about.
I don’t really know how to compare a GPA on a 6.0 scale. But, assuming it’s proportional, that’s the equivalence of a 3.0/4.0? If so, between that and only 1 AP/honors class, your academic record is quite low for GW. Despite your EC’s and ACT score, I think your chance of being accepted to GW is low.
With that said, if you are really passionate about GW, I’d recommend still applying. Now, the application deadlines are all passed, so I’m hoping you either already applied or you are applying next year?
Sorry to hear, @bschoolgirl12. If you’re really passionate about GW, I’d recommend doing as well as you can at whichever school you end up going to, then reapplying to GW as a transfer. If it was, in fact, your GPA that worried GW, get the best grades as possible next year to show you’re serious and much-improved. Good luck!
