Hi! I’m a rising junior in high school and want some advice on how to build my application for college. I am a first generation, parents are from India. I want to major in political science/international affairs. I was wondering if you could help me figure out my chances and ways to strengthen application.
ECS:
-Girls Who Code Alumni
-Advocate for Media Literacy (work with the nation’s leading media literacy non-profit)
-guest writer for Brown Girl Magazine
- Selected to be an SAC for Amnesty International (in charge of all amnesty related groups at the high school and collegiate level)
- Founder of Amnesty International’s Virtual Action Team for the states of Georgia and Florida (biggest chapter in country)
-Founded First Amendment- a student led blog where students can write about political/social justice issues
-Founded a UNICEF Club at my school
-President of MODEL UN
-treasurer of Key Club
-National Social Studies Honor Society (and a couple others too) - Interned for a local congressional candidate
-featured in a New York Times article about my work in Media Literacy
What I hope to accomplish this upcoming year
- Write an article and publish through Huffington Post, and ect.
- Get Nysli-state department program
- Be selected for GHP- Governors Honor Program (for social studies
-Apply to some fellowships
However!!
- I have had some ups and downs with my grades (3.8 UW)
I ended up with one C on my high school transcript for accel. pre calc bc It was super difficult for me to learn online (we had to switch to virtual learning due to COVID)
-my AP EXAMS 2020 (I have so many problems)- I ended up with a 3 on APWH and AP BIO, and (was a little shocked I did this bad)
Please give me some advice so strengthen my application! I want to apply to the DM for International Relations at Hopkins, and Georgetown would be my dream school!
