i have a feeling my recs will be pretty solid and i'm a pretty good writer so essays shouldn't be bad.

are my ec's going to hold me back? im trying to boost them a little but theres only so much you can do senior year without looking obvious

Those are not average stats. Maybe they're average for those accepted. The Turkish language is, I expect, a good hook.

lavieenrose51

were you trying to be sarcastic when you say average extra-Curriculars because the things you did are far from average

"Currently doing Stanford Summer Progam (worth mentioning in a columbia app??)"

I understand where you're coming from when you ask that question because I don't know whether or not to put on my Columbia application that I took an Economics course at NYU

fyi avg SAT score is like 1000 (cr and math) so your SATs aren't average.... I think your fine except for your essay topic....so what if you are bilingual...that doesn't make you special....keep brainstorming

no offense but both these questions are stupid.....you won't make columbia jealous by mentioning another college if you did something meaningful there!

no question is a stupid question shraf
sometimes is better to ask to avoid unfortunate ignorance. I've heard of stories about how certain schools favor where they rank in a students preferance

I'm not going to start a new kerfuffle, but here goes...

On a serious note to SoAuthentic, you really need to fix up your grammar and spelling because it is way under par. I'm telling you this for your own good. It really does need a marked improvement. Or maybe it's because you're not paying attention to what you're typing. That's all mate :)

I can understand why you asked that question, so far enough. Just remember that schools do not misinterpret the fact that you may have taken outside programs; it can only bolster your application. On the other hand, if you're applying to Columbia and your essay talks about how much you love NYU, then things may be taken differently. Just a heads-up :P

these aren't "stories"....of course a college cares how much you like it compared to others since all top tier schools put a lot of effort into keeping their ratio of matriculated to admitted high! However though, this has nothing to do with whether or not you should write about an activity at another institution. There can be a plethora of circumstances that cause you to do an activity or research or take a class etc at a certain college....columbia will not see it as you favoring that institution because that is illogical and absurd. In HS i did lab research at Lehman College....never heard of it? I didnt think so....that's because it's a city college....by your reasoning, columbia might assume that I would prefer that school (a CUNY in the Bronx btw) to columbia which is of course absurd....it doesnt take a genius to realize that, in HS, you take whichever opportunity that presents itself to you ...it would be silly of anyone to assume that has any correlation to your preferred undergrad university.

thanks for the positive feedback guys. i actually wasn't being sarcastic or anything by calling my sats/ECs average. i was pretty pleased with them before i got on here, but people in forums for other schools that aren't even ivy league like columbia said that my SAT scores and extracurriculars needed to improve, which is what i've been trying to do.

so i really have a chance at columbia though?

oh and yeah i guess it is kind of silly not to mention stanford summer college at all because it is a great oppurtunity that needs to be recognized. but would it be weird to write an essay for columbia on how it was a good learning experience? i wouldn't emphasize the fact that it's stanford at all, i'd just talk about how nice it was to learn ahead of time what living in a collegiate environment is really like, and how it helped me find out what my preferences are. then i'd connect that to how i think Columbia fits me the most.

...keep brainstorming :)

haha =)
i actually do have a potential essay already written out. would you be interested in critiquing it for me, shraf?

sure, u seem like a nice person with potential....send it over

You naive, naive young man. :P

I Geuss you got a point shraf.

Vesalvay can you please stop commenting on everything I say? Its getting ridiculous now. I don't need your lackluster thoughts && advice. Even if you remotely see my writing from miles away, don't comment!! I don't get why you always have to acknowledge me; unless you're........you know what.

Yes Lavienrose51. You have very solid stats. I seriously hope you && I get. Good luck && let them know what you're about!!

Sigh.

I'm giving you genuine advice now man. Honestly. I am really not trying to bring you down, but just want you to really concentrate on a part of you that you can improve; I have things that I need to improve and I try to keep my eye out for them and try to "reform". Anyway, whatever.

But thats not important Buddy. I can care less how I write on CC. The writing on my Columbia applications is what I'm going to care most about.
the substance of the thread matters most right now
so anyway.........

Ok, how about you guys chance the kid who posted this instead of continuing to argue like four year olds?

ses, its not an arguemnt. Its a Request
I already mentioned the OP stands a very good chance.

Okay, mate. No worries; as long as your app's good, then you're all set :)

Your attitude is slowly changing. && I Like that Wink. LOL
Hope you Find me at Columbia. Next Year 2008
