So far schools I’m thinking about are: UTD, Baylor, UT, Rice (my instates), UNC chapel hill, Fordham, University of Rochester, Northeastern UF, and Umiami
Is there anywhere else that y’all think I should think about or apply to? Preferably somewhere with good aid?
When you say mixed race, is there an underrepresented component there? (If you’re, for example, Eurasian, then that won’t help unless you apply to the rare schools that consider Asian as URM, like Lehigh and Lafayette.)
Northeastern was my first thought when I read your profile/interests. Rochester could be a good fit as well. And if you like those, Case Western could be worth a look - also great for STEM/pre-health musicians (joint program with Cleveland Institute of Music), and they give some nice merit awards.
Maybe check out the undergraduate Public Health program at Agnes Scott, which was developed in collaboration with Emory’s school of Public Health and allows you to start taking MPH classes as an undergrad. Great pre-health opportunities there, great diversity, and the possibility of generous merit.
RIT has a five-year BS/Ms PA program that could be worth considering. Chapman also has a BS/MS PA path - not direct-admit, but guaranteed interview and “preferential consideration” for their PA program - and it’s a great school for non-major musicians and generous with merit.
@aquapt yeah sadly I’m Eurasian. Do I have to specify on the common app? I’ve heard of people choosing one race they ‘identify with’ but don’t know if that’s morally/legally ok?? NEU is definitely a top choice, but even a 30k NMF scholarship would leave me with a lot of debt lol I’d apply to shoot my shot w a full ride however unlikely. Agnes Scott is definitely an option I hadn’t considered but will for sure bc I know there are a lot of dual MPH/PA programs out there that really interest me. But for undergrad, I am definitely trying to minimize debt and go somewhere where I’ll get a strong pre-health program. Thanks for the response!!
@daunt18 Yeah I’ve heard it’s full-ride + special treatment there. To be completely honest I haven’t strongly considered the school mostly because of the location, but to be fair I haven’t taken a good look at its actual atmosphere. Do you know anyone who goes/went there and what they think of it? For now, if it was between a full ride there or at a Florida school I’d probably choose a FL school.
Since you’re already Deep South (but admittedly not as southern as Alabama) you’ll be ok. Especially because it’s a university, not a small town in the middle of plantations, I don’t think the stereotypes for UAlabama fit. I do know multiple girls who went there from my school (Silicon Valley California) and found the culture shock pretty easy to get used to.
Keep an open mind!
How much are your parents willing to contribute to your education? If you are high income, you will not get any financial aid from Rice. Rice gives some merit awards, but most of the financial aid is need based. Being Eurasian will not make you an underrepresented minority at Rice. Rice doesn’t give any money for National Merit as virtually everyone they admit fits the bill. You should be an auto admit at UT. You should qualify for substantial money at Baylor. You might add SMU and TCU as safeties to your list as they give out lots of merit for high stats.
@pickleberry7 Honestly I would really prefer to not be near my home because my parents are pretty…intense. That’s the only reason I didn’t put SMU down (it’s like 10min from where I live). I am game for literally anywhere else. East Coast, West Coast, North, Northeast, idc. I think I was a big school or at least a medium size one. Thanks for the reply!!
@DadTwoGirls it honestly slipped my mind. It’s definitely a safety because I’m auto admit, and I like the vibe of Austin. It’s known to not give a lot of aid so compared to schools where I’d get a full ride (FL etc) it’s not high on my list. Also like a million kids from my high school go there. Not necessarily a negative, but definitely not a positive. Thanks for replying!
based on your achievements it looks like you want to go to a competitive school? or do you do it for fun? apply to harvard and you have a good chance. idk about you but im gonna be hella rich so debt wont be a problem
