I’ve seen a few of these and thought it’d be interesting/helpful to see some of you guy’s general opinions. Thanks.

Interesting things that will hopefully stand out:
I had leukemia in middle school. I wrote about it in my CA essay, pretty darn good essay too. Hopefully cancer survivor ship will stand out.

Essays: Probably generic from Lit and Calc teachers. Counselor essay was amazing. Basically, I was the most impressive student she’s seen in about 7 years.

Demographics:
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Asian (yay Aff action)
Income: around $100,000

My application looks super Asian. Won’t be surprised/freak out by a rejection or acceptance. Honestly don’t know why so many kids think its the end of the world if they don’t get into Harvard, so I’m just chillin right now and enjoying senior year.

Might be a little light on the ec’s but you seem like a great candidate. Your attitude is great also, where else are you applying?

Good stats. Survivorship should be a pretty compelling thing for AOs to review.
Btw - teachers and counselor write recommendations. You write the essays.
IMHO - one of the reasons people who really want to get into Ivies don’t get in is because people who don’t care apply and take their spot!

lol sorry, I was typing this on my phone in a rush. I meant to say recs not essays

@jennacwa I only listed ECs with 10+ hours a week to keep it concise. I did Harvard early, and I’m applying to the other Ivys, MIT and Duke.
@MedSciBud I care. I just don’t sweat it. IMO there’s a difference between “really want to” and deserve or are qualified to get in, but yeah I feel bad for those kids but the system isnt designed to be fair, like life :/.

You are a top notch candidate IMO. Too bad you wasted your SCEA on H…you probably could’ve gotten into Y

Small nitpick: don’t focus on your “cancer survivorship” as the accomplishment (many people overcome disease)…instead play up how cancer inspired you to do leukemia research. That shows drive.

@saviddilva - interesting that your post on Yale SCEA thread says you applied to Yale, but here you say you applied to Harvard?

@MedSciBud YES, I applied to early t YALE, NOT Harvard. Again, sorry I was typing this quickly and the thought of Harvard went through my head. lol.

I have almost exactly the same academics and background as you. It’s kinda weird. :open_mouth:

I am also applying to Yale early too to make things stranger. I think you will get in somewhere good, at least I hope so for my own sake

Your objective stats are obviously killer, you have at least a pretty good shot at all of these schools. I’d recommend adding on some STEM focused schools (MIT, CalTech) if that’s what you’re really interested in, your EC’s will seem more significant there. If you can effectively tie your Leukemia to your research that could be an incredibly powerful essay and a really strong hook. I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere great, good luck!
