Chance me. I DARE YOU.

Hey! Let's get right into it, here are my stats:

Attending a public high school in Seattle.

Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: I actually don't know how to calculate this.
Basically I've gotten all A's through high school in every class.

Class Rank:
1st out of around 350. However, my school only counts this by GPA, and of course there are several overachievers like me who love to get only A's and also have 4.0's. Some are taking harder classes, some are taking easier, but as long as they get all A's, they are ranked #1.

Course Load (NOTE THAT I AM BASICALLY ONLY NOTING CORE CLASSES OR IMPORTANT CLASSES HERE):
9th grade: No APs (none available to freshmen), instead took Honors
10th grade: AP Euro (the only AP available to sophomores), Honors for my other classes
11th grade: 3 APs: Calc AB, US History, Eng. Lang. & Comp. Honors Chemistry also taken (AP Chem not available without reg. chem as a prerequisite at my school)
12th grade: 4 APs: Stat, US Gov., Chem, L.A. (probably eng. lit & comp, but not sure). Some other stuff.

SAT I
Total: 2200, w/out Writing: 1440
Reading: 670
Math: 770
Writing: 760

SAT II
US History: 660
Math 2: 730 (will retake because I can get an 800 almost for sure)
Literature: 600 (will retake because I was shocked that I got a 600...I had little prep. though and I know I can get above 700 when I retake)

AP Scores:
European History: 3
US History: 4
English Language and Composition: 4
Calculus AB: 5

Awards:
This is pretty much a joke but it's the only award I can really even mention: I was in the top 10 for highest test scores in the field of Automotive Marketing in a regional DECA (a "business-marketing student organization") competition

EXTRACURRICULAR
Played violin for 11 years (granted it was kind of off and on for the first few years, but do colleges really need to know that?)
In nationally-renowned school orchestra for all 4 years of high school, toured Japan with them earlier this summer.
Did Tae Kwon Do for 6 years (though I stopped during freshman year of high school--does this EC count?)
Member of DECA, worked in school student store (is this EC because it was during school hours, but it was technically during lunch)
Probably some other smaller stuff as well.

Work Experience:
Had a summer job as a barista at a major coffee chain (NOT starbucks) last summer, left for the school year, and reclaimed the same job this summer. I intend to keep this job through the school year this year.

Volunteering: On the whole my volunteering is weak! I clearly spent too much time on xbox and not enough time in food banks.
Did volunteer work performing as part of an ensemble (on violin) in nursing homes and libraries.
Did some informal caretaking for my elderly debilitated grandmother.
Will be volunteering at the UW Medical Center.
Will hopefully also be volunteering with random doctors at the UW Med Center (who are my mother's collegues). This is separate from the one listed immediately above.
I will also be seeking other volunteer work in the weeks ahead.

AND BTW: My parents are immigrants from the middle-east! So I am a first generation born American, and in addition to English, I speak decent Aramaic at home. Technically, it was my first language (though I am much more fluent in English).

So, having all of that in mind, I would GREATLY appreciate it if you would chance me for the following schools:

Stanford (assume early-action)
Harvard
Brown
Johns Hopkins
Rice
Northwestern
Cornell
Washington U. in St. Louis
University of Washington (safety school!)

Thank you so much!

bump. cmon, i double dog dare you to chance me.

Hi kfive,

I’m happy to chance you … but can you chance me too? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html</a>.

First off, with a thread title like that, do you really think that people are going to chance you? I suggest that you start a new thread with a more welcoming title so that people are more willing to chance you … I’m nicer so I chance everyone who hasn’t been chanced yet.

Anywho, I’ll start with your GPA. A UW 4.0 is very impressive, especially when you’ve loaded up your schedule with Honors/AP classes. By the time you graduate from HS, you will have completed 8 AP classes, which is about the average on CC, but of course, the people posting here on CC aren’t your typical high school kids. For your AP grades, they’re decent, but not the most impressive. At more prestigious schools, they tend to award credit for 5s, if any at all. You may get credit for your 3 in Euro at state schools tho. Your SAT score of 2200 is very very good and places you in the Top 1% in the US. For your SAT IIs, most of the scores are good, except for your Lit score. I recommend retaking that test. You’ll need it because a 600 is no good on the SAT Subject — you should have 650+ for every test. Your ECs are few in number and lack leadership based on the info you gave me, but you demonstrate significant dedication for Violin and Tae Kwan Do (this is very interesting). Your violin isn’t as interesting, because … who doesn’t play in their school band/orchestra (but going to Tokyo IS exotic)? Your volunteering would have been awesome, if there were more verbs in the past tense instead of the future tense … however, you can get away from that by describing your experiences of taking care of your grandmother (why did you feel like you needed to do it? did your parents work leaving you to take care of your grandmother? what did you learn from your grandmother? … etc you know that kinda stuff)… or you can be brutally honest in your essay and talk about your experiences on XBox and how you admire the graphics on XBox (not a joke … admission officers enjoy honest people).

Overall, you’re a good student, but you’re not the most active kid I’ve seen here on CC. However, it’s too late to change your ECs now — the only way you can boost your chances of admission is to write killer essays … and no … not the ones that are so scary that they give admission officers a heart attack, but that would be cool tho.

Chances:
Stanford: Reach (top ivy)
Brown: Reach (highly selective ivy)
JHU: Slight reach to reach
Rice: Match
Northwestern: Match
Cornell: Match
WUSTL: High match
Univ of Washingtown: Safety match - match for honors

Good luck, and remember to chance me too!
-ab2013

thank you ab2013, and i’ll chance you when i have the chance (pun intended)

JHU: Slight reach to reach
Cornell: Match
WUSTL: High match

Since when are JHU and WUSTL more selective than Cornell?
Cornell moves into the reach category.

I’ll chance a fellow Pacific guy. Just chance me in return. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/548705-let-s-put-smile-face-chancing-me.html</a></p>

Harvard - Reach/Crapshoot

Johns Hopkins - High Match
Rice - High Match
Northwestern - High Match
Cornell - High Match

bump for the night.

sry to double post, but i’m bumpin’ again. anyone know if i can get in with great grades, good SATs, and mediocre ECs?

i hate to triple post…but can anyone help me out here?

chance me this guy can get in anywhere

dog i need some legitimate chancing here…listen i dont want to be applying to too many reach schools if my lack of ECs are going to hold me back…
