^I totally agree. It is getting harder to chance UCB/UCLA. However the college of Engineering admit rates in Berkeley are 8-10% (saw the link somewhere, dont have it at present).
If your lack of ECs are explained (family obligation is perfectly fine), you should be ok. Actually I think your ECs are not that bad.

Just curious, what are your other UC acceptances (ucsd/uci/ucd)

Ok…looked at your school profile…you have a much better chance. MESA is good. You have achieved much in your context. Hope Berkeley sees it that way. Good luck !

so when is Berkeley’s decisions coming?

Got into ucsc with regents
Thats my backup

I wrote about family obligations in my essay

Oh and im first genration college goer
But not the first my brother attends usc
Does that decrease my chances?

UCSC regents is good. Again can’t predict Berkeley…if it wasn’t Engineering, I would have said 95% chance…since your first gen (your brother going to USC does not work against you, you are still first gen),school profile/mesa, questbridge works for you. Right now you are 50/50…either way, you have some good options.

Did you apply to USC by the way? If so, that is another option to be compared with UCSC.

Yes UC Berk is my first option and then USC

@Eloriel: The mistaken assumption you made was that the UC’s will know that he took the SAT. Not reporting the SAT’s will just make them think that he took the ACT first, was satisfied with his score, and didn’t bother taking the SAT (For understandable reasons too).

@OP: Your chances at Berkeley are fairly good, but getting rejected from UCLA tells something about your essays or extracurriculars. You shouldn’t be surprised if you get a rejection but there is a high chance you’ll get in too. Like others have said, chancing at Berkeley and LA are much harder than the other UC’s, especially with major budget cuts now.

Thanks for all the replies and helpful tips ( except for that ACT/SAT Rant)
Ill let you guys know if Ii get accepted to USC, Cornell or Berkeley or get rejected by all of themXD

Got rejected from Berkeley and Cornell
Accepted to USC!!!

Yay!! Congratz on USC!! That’s an excellent school. :)

thanks!
does anyone know the acceptance rate for berkeley this year?
