Schools (clearly have zero confidence as I applied to so many schools):
Vanderbilt (ED2)--first choice, talk to my admissions counselor like it's my job
USC
Lehigh
Lafayette
UMich
Wisco
Wake Forest
Barnard
GWU
NYU
Colgate
UMiami
WashU
BU

i'm going to be rejected from everywhere aren't I

oh and i'm going to major in communications.

i applied to syracuse-newhouse too

Your GPA will really hinder you. I'd say you have matches with Colgate, WashU, and maybe UMiami. Good luck!

thank you.
oh and i forgot i'm possibly an athlete for division three schools: washu and nyu

Vanderbilt (ED2)- Mid to high reach/reject because GPA is fairly low.
USC-Mid reach
Lehigh- High match
Lafayette- Don't know.
UMich- Low reach (UMich is GPA heavy)
Wisco- In
Wake Forest- Don't know
Barnard- Probably a high reach to reject (though I'm not sure how less competitive Barnard is to Columbia)
GWU- High match.
NYU- Mid-reach.
Colgate- Don't know.
UMiami- Don't know
WashU- High reach to reject
BU- Match to safety.

But of course, I'm not sure how athletics might play into the game. They might help you get into the university. Hopefully, your essays were PHENOMENAL (that will also help you.) Who knows what will happen though?

i think that you'll get in to syracuse, lafayette, bu, umiami, wisco, colgate.
although your gpa is low, your act score is good, your extra curriculars are impressive and you said your essays were great. so i think you have decent chances at gw, lehigh, nyu and maybe wake forest and barnard.
the rest are reaches.
good luck!

178 of you viewed, but only 3 responses--classic cc. hmm BUMP haha

I'm going to say 40/60 (slightly against you) for Vandy, because (a) they need Jewish students (there was a WSJ article about that...), (b) presuming strong essays (I'm pretty sure they're strong) you'll appear strongly in terms of personal qualities, and (c) strong athletics and ECs boost you, BUT mediocre grades and ACTs (for Vandy) hurt your chances.

Good luck, though! And, by the way, you're probably going to get into BU, Lehigh, UMiami, and UWisconsin, at the least (if not Colgate, GW and Wake Forest, too).

Go to Wash U! You'll get in.

oh i should add, that after last year i had a huge upper trend first semester. my guess is 3 As and 2 Bs. if that will help me at all

I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

I believe you have a strong chance to get into a lot of your schools, so try to feel more upbeat.

I urge you to write to the admission officer at your schools and address the whole issue of your mother. Give them details about your struggle and how you overcame adversity.

bump (ten char.)

ah bump please

wow well i think you have a good chance at all of them. ur act is great. 30 on the act is like a 2000 on the sat, so thats defintly good. we actually have similar statistics and were both from nj and im applying to some of those schools too I defintly think that colleges will understand that your grades went down because of your situation, and if anything, that might even give u an advantage. because it shows you overcame this crises in ur life, and it will make u stand out. i hope u get into your top choice. and ur gpa will not harm you too much because u wrote a note.

thanks so much. BUMP pleaase

oh i'm missing some ecs. i was selected for the honors chorus at my high school and we perform concerts at a local retirement home (10, 11, 12)

eeeek help me! bump

no joke, BUMP

NO use in bumping anymore... i think everything has been said

I am also jewish, and it never really occured to me that it could help or hinder. Does anyone think that it helps? or hurts? ideas?
