Chance me? (interesting) Essays included.

IMO, kids who confuse the chance to attend NYU with the chance to live in NYC…are at a serious disadvantage. They want to know it’s the school and its programs, not the city, that attract you- and that you understand your place at the school.

These tend toward a negative tone. It’s not what your life is like that matters- it’s what you offer the school, etc, etc. They don’t select candidates for their opinions, but for the qualities that show they can fit and thrive there. In hs, observations can matter very much in your papers- different point in the college responses. Think like an adcom. Your college future depends on their reactions.

This will be true for most colleges most kids apply to, via the CA.

Alright guys, I get it. Please stop. Thank you.

If an upward trend brought you to a 3.4, I’m not sure if this is going to work out. :frowning: But, I think you will at least be deferred and maybe accepted.

Just so everyone knows, aj9895 sent me a nice private message, which I appreciated. College chancing can get emotional, especially when it feels as if you are being judged personally.

Best of luck.

No offense dude but you really don’t have a good chance at any of these schools, especially NYU with some of those answers… The main problem was the topic of choice. You simply didn’t answer the question, why NYU, and really didn’t come close to answering it. The second problem was the additional comments… You sound snobbish, and you’re trying to make excuses for your bad grades, then you make it obvious you’re trying to make excuses by trying to claim that you take pride in your grades.

“The only students who wield the ability to make it to the top of their class are robots: their minds are easily molded as they mindlessly copy lecture notes, agreeing with every word that comes out of a teacher‘s mouth and regurgitating any information they “learn” onto exams and homework.”

I would just take out that whole part. Just read it over it and you’ll understand. Basically what I had to say earlier… Also, as I see it, students who are at the top of their class are the ones who have taken advantage of their opportunities. Colleges will want to see those kids rather than the kids who think they’re better than everyone else even though nothing (you’re not the president of the world) backs you up.

Thanks, bro. That has been established in the previous two pages.

This is really harsh on the guy. I think he prob realizes that his essay does need some work. and just to reiterate this, it is way too wordy/fancy and what not. It isn’t really a “test” or an “SAT Writing essay,” you are telling them about you. So ya, just make it more direct, less wordy, and more on topic and you should be fine :).

Also help me out as I am aiming for NYU too.

OP: I respect your sending that other guy a pm. Well done
