Really awesome Essay.

I was wondering if anyone else had similar stats, who came from a military family. No one I know of has had to move halfway through high school and apply to same colleges I am.
Thank you for your time and consideration!

Okay almost 400 views and still not a reply? Any chance of acceptance?

As a Military spouse and a Florida resident I believe the only thing that will matter are the stats from your graduating HS. You will be classified as in state but honestly your class rank and test scores are going to make UF a reach. I would suggest applying to other Florida schools as well. You are aware you can get bright futures right?

I am aware I can get bright futures! That makes me excited. And I am sure my test scores are going to go up. Hopefully colleges, especially UF, will see I attend the largest High School in Virginia and that our school is one of the most competitive in the country. Regarding my move, I want them to see that I remained successful, despite the accelerated coursework I have experienced. I moved to VA from SC.

I’ve seen a bunch of people get in with test scores lower than yours, both in the most recent class and before. Class rank is a HUGE factor btw.

But here’s the thing…Admissions is HOLISTIC, complex, and even a little random. Present yourself as a diverse and unique individual. It’s better to be balanced than to be only academically or non-academically strong. A balance is needed. A love for UF and passion to excel is important. And here’s the thing…I mean, admissions rejects people they WANT to accept. Most rejects are eligible for and should’ve been admitted. But there’s just so little space.

UF is trying to fix that…at least to an extent of sorts, rather than doing nothing. I think they started accepting some more students for Summer while the Innovation Academy has two primary purposes: One is to foster creativity and innovation to a cohort of academically superior UF students and Two, which deals with fixing some spacing issues, is it has it where prospective, academically-based/pure academically-focused students can indicate interest on their applications and in effect are allowing admissions to give their Fall/Spring spots to an extra admit (who would’ve otherwise been rejected), in return for a spot in the IA (admissions decides which IA interests they want for the program and which they don’t want for it, though).

But even then, the space is STILL so small and there are STILL so many students getting rejected. Students that should have been accepted. It’s not even that the competition has rose so much…I mean, yeah it’s gotten CRAZY competetive to the point that UF is reaching towards the ivy-difficulty level…but it’s to the point where the applicant pools are so strong that pretty much almost everybody should be accepted. Unlike in the past, you had your weak applicants, mediocre, then strong. Nowdays, it’s just strong, STRONG, and STRONG.

There are new dorms being made to help accomodate for the “crowdedness” too lol.

Put your heart into your application, show HOW you will contribute to UF, and present yourself in the best way possible. UF attracts the best and brightest students of Florida. UM as well (but IMO UF is better. Of course, I would be biased though lol).

Wow! Thank you so much for your reply. I figured class rank was going to be a big deal, that’s really disheartening. But I understand your points and I appreciated the time you spent writing.
