yet another chance me thread...applying next year!!

Hey guys! I'm an out of stater (drat) but I really really want to go to UF. It's my dream.

Anyways, here are my stats.

My UF GPA is a 4.36

My SAT is a 730 Crit Reading, 720 Math, 710 Writing
-----1450 / 1600
----- 2160 / 2400

I have a rigorous course load, with many honors and APs. My school does not rank.
I will have taken 25 non-elective courses by graduation...and an additional 11 elective courses. I don't know if that means anything...

All 12 grade things are projected...I won't change any of my activities after all...

Also, during the summer after 9th grade I spent 4 weeks at a local college in a biotechnology program...

Well, I really hope I can get in. I feel like my out of state status can hurt me greatly though. Any reassurances?

haha, i was going through what you wrote and i was like nice, nice, and then out of state… lol, well, i’m instate, have stats like yours and i got accepted. what’s your rank? are you top 10%? it really does matter for top 10% from what i’ve seen on these threads.

Does anybody know the out of state stats?? I’m not really sure, but I think you have a pretty good shot, can anybody back me up?

thanks yayy!

My school does not rank…will that hurt me at all?

The fact that your high school does not rank won’t matter since UF does not consider class rank in decisions. If you don’t believe me then just email them. I’d say you’ve got a great shot. But who knows how much they’ll have to cut the admissions percentage down next year. And being out of state doesn’t really kill you all that much. It hurts you a little but its nothing major at all. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. go gators.

Techno: Seems like you have two choices.

Choice one- Believe Gatorboy that class rank doesn’t matter and take your chances, or,

Choice two- Move down here and end the guessing games.

j/w but why is UF your dream school? i have to admit that it was last on my list of colleges but now is first. can’t beat such a cheap education (well at least for an in state student)

You have a very solid shot. :)

I hope you get in, cause if you don’t, then it means I got no shot, haha.

Just curious - where in New York are you from?

60-65%

all i can say is that a MASSIVE factor will be your essay.

good luck

@ Norma: there are several reasons why I want to go to UF

1.) Not only is it a high quality education, but it has a great journalism program and I have heard it prepares students well for law school. I am going to major in journalism and pre-law.

2.) UF is just…amazing. Literally. The entire place gives off a welcoming feeling that just makes you feel great. It really is the Gator Nation. I want to be a part of that community.

3.) I want a big school. I want a well-known school. I want a school that is fun. I want a place where I can work hard and still play. UF is that school.

I hope those are valid reasons…

@Invictus
I’m from Long Island, but I’m not one of the rich ones…comfortably middle class haha

@Andre10
I hope we both get in… :)

@gpowsang
Can you tell me what exactly causes me to have such a poor chance? I’ll try and fix it.

To be completely honest its the OOS status that makes me put 60-65%, if you were in-state, id say about 80% at the most.

I personally think that 75-80% should be the range for all in-staters who are in the 25th percentile (in terms of average admittance stats) and 60-65% for all OOS pl in the same situation as you.

Personally I would recommend starting to THINK (now write) about what you are going to write tour essay on. I am not joking with you when I can honestly say that my essay is what got me in, because my stats were not so bright at all(26 ACT, 1200/1810 SAT and about a 3.3-3.4 UF GPA)

Even though you have much higher stats, your essay is still a MASSIVE determining factor.

Also, you should KEEP IN MIND that there is no longer such thing as having “solid chance” in getting in. In my school I know of two students that did not get in with 1300+ SATs (one had a 13400 I believe) and LOADS of ECs and CSs (much like yourself).

I am not discouraging you from applying, I am just saying that you do not have a SOLID chance.

I hope this was informative and I wish you the best of luck!

thanks a lot gpowsang.

Don’t worry, I didn’t think I had a “solid” chance…I wouldn’t have made this thread if I was that convinced.

Thank you for your advice. I will definitely put a lot of effort into my application. I’m going to spend the entire summer writing it, and send it in late September :)

Maybe if I end up lucky, I’ll be able to give similar advice…or, I’ll end up unlucky and still give similar advice :)

Life’s funny that way.

good luck, of course you know UF wants unique and creative individuals to join the UF community. make sure your essay stands out that way. Don’t worry about the ranking too much because UF knows some schools do not rank like yours.

My daughter was accepted this year as an OOS with the following:

SAT 1210
ACT 26
Class rank Top 15%
Weighted GPA 4.43

I don’t know her UF GPA, but it was lower than 4.43. She had many EC activities, including varsity soccer 4 years, basketball 2 years, Beta club officer, Key Club, soccer coach etc. She wrote a very good essay and I am an alum. I don’t think I helped her much, but most likely got her past the tipping point. She had to be on the bubble.

Keep working hard and don’t give up. My daughter never did and it paid off.

techno those are very valid reasons and exactly why i turned (or am turning) NYU down. NYU was my dream school but then I had a change of heart and decided i wanted a school with spirit and that was the traditional college experience.

you have really great stats and as long as your application and essay look good then you have a pretty good chance. try visiting and getting to know admission directors by emailing them. it shows that you are truly interested and may give you that leg up

thanks! Yeah, I’m visiting July 16th, and will contact the Admissions Office by e-mail and try to see if it would be possible to stop by…

I’m really excited / nervous for next February…haha I want to be a Gator so muchhhh

Hey guys…

I got a 32 on the ACT…but I think my SAT was better, right?

I go to an instate gifted public school that requires all honors. I’ve taken AP World History (got an A in the course and a 4 on the exam), and am currently taking AP Psychology, AP Language and Compostition, and AP American History (with A’s unless I drastically fail my mock lol). I got a 1310/1600 and a 1940/2400, without taking Algebra II (I’m retaking the SAT in June). I am a four-year rower for a nationally recognized team, I’m the vice president of the most successful Save Darfur club in the nation, and a member of Charity Water, Save Our Sharks, and my school’s rowing club. I was a campaign volunteer for Obama, and have 75+ community service hours. I have a summer internship at our local news station this summer. My problem is that I got C’s in four classes freshman/sophomore year. I know GPA is the main component at UF, so I’m pretty scared. I haven’t waited my grades per UF standards yet but I’d guess around a 3.5 since I’ll be making fingers crossed all A’s this year. I’m taking 3 APs next year and the rest honors. Do you think I’ve got a shot?

Yes. But curious, what classes were those C’s in? As long as your GPA bumps up I’d say you have a decent shot.
