I attend a competitive private high school - 100% attend a 4 year college. My GPA is only 2.9, but on the rise. My first time taking the SAT (no review course) I scored 630 math, 650 verbal and 630 writing for a 1910 overall. I am currently taking a reviw course for the March SAT. I am a female and want to join the Corps and will apply for an ROTC scholarship. EC's: band, venture crew, cross-country team, black belt in Taekwon-do, fleunt in Spanish, volunteer at church, mission trip to Honruras, Girls State this summer. Texas A&M is my first choice but I am not interested in their transfer program. I intend to major in Psychology. What are my chances to be admitted as a freshman? Thank you.

My son had very similar stats to yours (GPA a couple points higher, SAT a little lower, private prep school, loads of EC’s with great leadership positions). He is currently a freshman in the Corps of Cadets on an Army scholarship and majoring in history. He did very well his first semester at A&M.

I assume you are a junior in high school. My advice is to visit early and often for the special Corps programs (he did both Spend the Night and Spend the Day with the Corps), and apply as early as possible for the ROTC scholarship.

A 1910 isn’t a high SAT score by any means, but you should get in. Wanting to join the Corps is a big plus. Though your GPA may be low, it will probably depend on your class rank…
