Chance me? Low GPA

Hello!!!

I never thought I would post on a forum like this, but here I am haha. I’ll start off by giving you my college “list” if you will.
University of Louisville
DePaul
Purdue
Case Western Reserve
Ohio State
Boston University
Brown
Cornell
UChicago
UPenn

This list seems unrealistic based off of my stats, but here they are nonetheless. My cumulative GPA is a 3.15W, 3.0 UW. My ACT score is probably going to end up being a 33/34. I’ve only taken it once and I was ill so I’m expecting it to go well the next time I take it. I haven’t take the SAT yet.

It’s also worth noting that I have only taken AP, Adv. and Honors courses throughout high school and I go to the top high school in my state.

Additionally, I am expecting all As next semester, so I will have a 4.5 for the first semester of senior year. The reason for my low GPA is the result of an ongoing series of complications. Freshman year, I developed an eating disorder. Sophomore was full of anxiety and depression. Junior year, I filed a law suit against my parents and I was working full time. To show you the improvement in my grades from first semester to second, I got 2 Ds first semester junior year (2.83W) to a 3.96W my second semester.

I also have some good EC. Girl scout gold award, service chair of music honor society, All-state orchestra, founder of local chapter of english honor society, youth orchestra, volunteer at hospital, internship at civil engineering firm, delegate for my state (girl scouts), three honorable mentions from scholastics (region at large), also I model full time (laugh at me all you want). But most impressively, I have a research internship at a university hospital nearby, and if my research in the next couple weeks goes the way I think it will, the scientists I work with and myself may have found a new, extremely effective targeted cancer therapy drug. I intend to continue with this internship for quite some time obviously.

If it’s worth anything at all, I’m a pretty strong writer and I’m expecting really good essays, pretty good recs too. I also have two extensive research papers on organ transplantation that might be published and a couple science fairs coming up.

So overall, I’m doing okay. Just trying to decide if applying to the ivies is worth my time. I’m considering getting a private college admissions counselor? any thoughts on that?

ANYWAYS,
Thank you for all of your help

Scores and ECs are good, but your GPA will hold you back.
University of Louisville-low match/safety
DePaul-low match/safety
Purdue- match, but depends on major.
Case Western Reserve- low reach
Ohio State- high match… they really like high test scores
Boston University- reach
Brown-high reach
Cornell- high reach
UChicago- high reach
UPenn- high reach

Wow, your story is very complex. It is hard to make a definite statement about your likelihood of admittance to any of these schools because you are a very different applicant. I wouldn’t let the GPA hold you back from applying to all of these schools. The chances provided by @ChiefMonger are accurate. I’d apply to one of the high reach schools, a few of the reach schools and definitely Purdue. For some odd reason, I see you being a high match at Purdue, regardless of the major. Good luck and I wish the best for you!
