3 AP Classes (only 1 available at my small rural school, so I’m hoping it’ll show that I’m trying to challenge myself by reaching out of what is readily available)
Very rigorous schedule
ECs:
Treasurer for both Student Council and NHS
Founded my school’s Model UN club
Over 100+ volunteer hours in an art therapy type studio for children (I feel like this relates greatly to my intended major), and a girls fitness group
Quiz Bowl team (got 2nd in the state last year)
More smaller ones that aren’t as relevant
Teacher Recommendations are pretty good. One is from a teacher that has had me for 2 years and runs both student council and the softball department, both in which I have/had prominent roles
I volunteer at the two places listed above every week for 2 hours along with holding a part time job
University of Michigan is definitely at the top of my list as one of my dream schools and I really hope that I have a decent chance of getting in! Please chance me!
Your GPA is likely the determining factor. ACT 31 is also in the low side but within the range and is less important. Can you recalculate your uwGPA without subgrades? If your family income is below $65k, the tuition is free.
Your gpa is low, your ACT is low = bad news. On the plus side, you’re in-state, from a crappy school, and a woman wanting to go into stem. But that probably won’t save you. Your 26 in Math on the ACT sinks the boat. If you don’t get that number up, they won’t think you can realistically complete a Neuroscience curriculum. Things that might save you…if you have EXCELLENT grades in Chemistry, Physics and Calculus. If you don’t? I’m not seeing you making the cut. Sorry to be discouraging. MSU might be a good fit.
@MaryGJ I’ve gotten A’s in Chemistry and I can’t take Calculus because pre-calculus is required and only students one year ahead in math have that opportunity (pre-calc is the usual math for seniors and they pick who advances a year ahead in 7th grade, I moved to my school in 8th). I’m currently in Physics now with an A. I’m going between Neuroscience and BCN, and as I understand it, BCN is within in psychology department. Since it’s a social science, will the same restrictions apply?
