Do I have any chance? I know its a reach
@as1799, I think you mean only the ADCOM knows if you are going to be admitted. And UM does do a recalculation, according to the person quoted in the article that I spoke to. The recalculated figure is used in the CDS so they must compute it. Michigan admissions are very data driven; especially for in-state students, you can predict with a some certainty that a student from a feeder school who applied in EA with a high GPA and ACT will be admitted. In cases like the OP, there is too much uncertainty and too little information.
@MomOf2TeenGirls I’m not disagreeing with you but how old is that? I didn’t see a date and it could be outdated. I think that recalculating 55,000 gpas is unnecessary and the university recognized that it waste of time, but who knows.
I was at a UMich presentation/tour last Spring and the topic of grade recalculation was brought up. An admissions officer said yes, they still recalculate everyone’s grades upon evaluation.
They do recalculate grades. It wouldn’t be fair for someone whose high school weights GPAs to be compared to others whose schools don’t weight. So at U of M, an A, A+, and A-, for any class no matter if it’s AP or honors, mean the same thing. That obviously goes for Bs, Cs,…etc as well.
Your ACT is definitely high, especially because you applied to LSA which serves to your benefit. I don’t know how much the high ACT will compensate for the relatively low GPA (Michigan’s average is around a 3.9). Though I think it is a reach, I think you have a decent chance.
