Hey,
I am a Chicago Resident and am looking to do an application to Michigan State. I would also like to get a direct admission into their Business Program. Here is a list of the following things I am involved in, and would like to see what my chances of getting in are:
1200 SAT
24 ACT
3.7 Non-Weighted GPA
Top 10% of Graduating Class
Extra-Curricular
Girls Varsity Tennis
Girls Varsity Track and Field
NHS (Executive Team)
Warrior Pride (Leader)
Pi Sigma Pi (Executive Officer)
DECA (State Finalist)
Student Council
Yearbook
Was there anything further I could do to give myself a further push into getting in with a good merit scholarship.
Thank you so much, but was there a possibility of a good scholarship?
As an out of state applicant with a 24 ACT score, you’re eligible for $8,000 in merit per year (University Scholars Award). If you get your ACT score up to ~30 or your SAT up to ~1400, you may be accepted into the Honors College, which would then bump the out of state merit scholarship up to $15,000 per year. If your stats are really top notch (33+ ACT or 1500+ SAT), there are other possibilities like a tuition grant that brings tuition down to the MI resident rate, and an additional $2,500 per year professorial assistantship…
My son is an incoming freshman for Fall 2017, and was accepted into the Honors College with the $15,000 per year scholarship. His class rank and gpa were fine, but his test scores were below the published Honors College averages (28 ACT, 1340 SAT), but he’s an Honors College legacy…
Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
What would be the approximate price I would end up paying?
@PrachiPatel22 Lets see:
Double the tuition for OOS - $12k x 2 = $24,000
Room and board - Around $9k total
Fees, books, extra stuff - $2k total
I’d say around $37,000 - $39,000.
You should have a pretty good chance for a lot of their scholarships for out of state students so subtract that total price by a couple thousand if you really try for those scholarships.
It’s really hard to gauge because you may have other criteria on your FAFSA that make you eligible for more grant aid. And with the competitive scholar awards you could end up paying less than a lot of in state students once all is said and done.
@CCmsu20 Thank you so much!!! You really influenced my decision about applying.
