Hey all! I know that these chance things are not always accurate and annoying, but do you think i have a shot at MSU honors? I think this is only contingent on numbers so that’s all I’m gonna post.
ACT- 33comp, 35 math, 33 science, 32 reading, 31 eng
GPA- 3.6 uw 3.8 w (1 ap sophmore year, 3 junior, and 2 senior)
My high school is very competitive and doesn’t do class rank.
Your GPA similar to mine but you have a better test score… I just recently got accepted for engineering OOS so im just waiting to see if i get honors or money …
For OOS, if your ACT is over 24 (SAT over 1160), with a GPA over 3.5, you will be awarded the university scholars award of $8,000/year, and possibly a 1-time $3,000-$5,000 Presidential study abroad scholarship… If your scores are higher and you’re offered the admission to the honors college, the scholarship is $15,000/year, or possibly a tuition waiver to bring your tuition to instate MI value plus a professorial assiatanceship. Even if you initially don’t hear from the honors college, but your stats are pretty good, you can write an extra essay and get awarded admission to the honors college and the OOS $15k/year scholarship… My S17 didn’t initially get offered the honors college, but wrote the essay and was admitted ~March of last year with the bump in scholarship level. There’s also a $3,000/year scholarship if a parent or grandparent are MSU alums.
@MSU88CHEng I have a question, what is MSU honors college? I applied through MSU’s website and i can’t remember if I saw anything about an honors college?
My GPA is 3.625 and SAT was 1150 (1160 super scored). You can view one of my threads for super specific things I’m apart of (since this isn’t my thread so don’t want to be rude)…do I also have a chance at honors? I’m OOS (TX)
The honors college is basically an enrichment program. If you go to the MSU admissions website under academics, there’s a link to get more information about the honors college. To graduate from the honors college, you need to take at least 8 honors or honors option courses and maintain a 3.2 GPA. You get perks like early registration, ability to apply different classes to your gen ed requirements, special programs, and access to scholarships, among other things. They admit high stats students automatically–initially there is no extra application. They say that the average freshman admitted to the honors college is in the top 5% of their HS class, has taken several AP or IB classes, and has a 32 ACT or 1410 SAT. If you are low in any aspect and haven’t been accepted I to the honors college by Jan 1, you can write an essay to apply if you’re interested. My S17 wrote the essay and was accepted with a good GPA (95) from an IB program, but lower scores (28 ACT, 1340 SAT). He is OOS as well (NY). Way back in the day, I was also in the honors college…
You grades are probably ok, but I don’t know how competitive your school is. However, your test scores may be a bit low–you could email the honors college directly if you’re interested.
