DISCLAIMER: I DID NOT GO TO A CC THAT FEEDS INTO ANY OF THESE SCHOOLS, THANKS.
HS GPA: 3.4 GPA with 6 AP courses.
SAT: 1210/1600
EC: BETA Club, Spanish Club, shadowed a Doctor 3 times (do I get a cookie?).
CC GPA: 4.0/4.0
Courses: Accounting 1 & 2, Macro & Microeconomics, Calc 1 & 2. Gen eds, etc. (60 credits).
Extracurricular: Volunteered at local Mosque (fundraisers, dinners, etc), unpaid Private Wealth Management internship last Summer, started a Finance club at my CC.
Couldn’t attend ANY of my state-colleges (Clemson, USC, etc) due to my parents getting divorced which didn’t allow me to attend any schools. It was mainly a financial issue so I went to CC to make it easier on my parents for the time being.
I’ve completed 2 years of CC (Associate in Science), I’m going to apply to these schools once applications open this upcoming March. I didn’t apply last March since I wanted to take this time off to make some extra money before I go off to college set since my parents aren’t doing to well financially.
I will be applying as an external transfer to these schools for business: UVA, UNC (have to spend 1 semester in CAS), ND, Emory, Vanderbilt (Econ), USC, UT, NYU.
Thanks.
Is your intended major economics at all of these?
By USC do you mean U South Carolina, or U Southern California, or…?
NYU tends to give poor non-loan financial aid. Basically, it’s a very expensive school, and you’ll probably need a ton in loans to attend. So although I’m not telling you not to apply, do not make this (or any school) your “dream school” until you apply, get in, see their aid offer, and calculate what you’ll need in loans. If you like NYU, but want a school that has a tendancy to give better aid, you might look at BU.
@RoaringMice University of Southern California.
Academic wise, what are my chances?
Also nyu stern has a transfer acceptance rate of single digits so it’s as difficult as an ivy
If USC Marshall has a similar transfer rate to their overall rate then you should have a decent shot at it
All right sounds sweet. Any ideas on my other school choices? I kinda just threw NYU up there, even if I get into Stern (most likely not) I won’t really consider it anyways.
Well all the schools you’re applying to will probably have lower b school acceptance rates than overall so you need more business school safeties. Preferably affordable ones. Are you from SC?
Your CC GPA will help you a lot. However, I still think that you need affordable safeties.
@philbegas yes I am from South Carolina unfortunately. Oh ok for example, UVA McIntire has an acceptance rate of 17% with a mean GPA of 3.7. They said half of applicants get dinged due to lack of proper pre reqs. Do I still have a good chance? I can get into UNC, but applying the Kenneth Flager is a different process. How about Vandy and Emroy?
@DadTwoGirls I want to go into investment banking, I can’t cheap out on school prestige.
@2Fast2Good go to UNC or UVA then
UVA is nice. External transfer rate is 17% but according to adcoms half lack proper prereqs, mean GPA is like 3.7.
UNC gives transfers a hard time.
@2Fast2Good What do you mean UNC gives transfers a hard time?
@ceilingroofgoat you have to spend one semester in the CAS and you cant prove yourself in a semester or two. Most transfers never get in or graduate late
@2Fast2Good that’s fake news in my experience
Well school prestige is part of it of course, but if you go to a school that has some connections for you to utilize, and you work hard, you can still get into investment banking. Schools like Fordham, CUNY Baruch
