Are you and your family prepared to pay $65,000 per year for attendance at UCSB? The California state schools do not provide financial support for oos students. Also note that your honors courses will not count towards a weighted GPA.

Yeah I’m aware of the honors course dilemma. Pretty disappointing considering my school does not offer IB courses

And the financial issues as well? You state that you are high income, but is $260,000 affordable for four years? Is it worth it over universities in your home state? Have you used
https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
to calculate your UC GAPs? That’s really the only way to come up with a reasonable guess for you.

Thanks. I’m gonna use that calculator to get a more accurate UC GPA. And yeah, I would almost definitely attend UCSB if I got in

As you are full pay OOS, that is going to help. You would go to UCSB over A&M?

Is grad school anywhere on your horizon? Does it make financial sense to spend so much on undergrad if it is?

What is it that makes UCSB your top choice?

yeah i would

The big question is, can your parents afford $250k for a bachelors degree in mathematics? Cost is your precondition before you even start looking at schools. If you can’t afford it, there’s no debate. I’m sure a Porsche would be a great fit for my personality…except I can’t afford to buy one.

You might say, “The school might give generous financial aid.” My response, good luck with that! Run the NPC and you tell me how generous they are. If you have to co-sign private loans to pay for it, then you can’t afford the school, and you’re setting yourself up for financial ruin.

yeah i would<<<<

How?

Wow. OP says his family is able to be full pay. Not sure why this is so hard for ppl to comprehend…
@Ronaldoiscoming plz don’t feel pressured to repeatedly answer the same question. Becomes a bit insulting…

hahaha thank you! came here for a chance me, not to answer the same question for a bunch of people :-B

I know it is tedious, but hard to imagine how an assumed academic admit to TAMU would have access to any adult who would pay 260K for UCSB, Obvs UT is not auto but still would be a reach application, right? Are you a senior? The reality is OP probably has a shot at UCSB being full pay. Be careful what you wish for LOL. See if you can find stats on acceptance vs yield for your major for OOS.

another question for you, when you say ‘your honors courses will not count towards a weighted GPA’, do you mean that my honors classes will be considered as regular level classes, or they will disregarded altogether? thank you

They will count, in UC GPA calculations, as regular weight courses. There will not be a grade point bump like will occur for oos AP courses (and in-state honors) coursework.

yeah thats tough. thanks

Are you applying to UT? Why do you prefer UCSB?

in state and not top 6/7% of my class. i am applying and would gladly attend, but I don’t at all expect to be admitted.

But you are admitted to TAMU already?

Another option if you hurry is Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo. Great school for mathematics, perhaps a tad less competitive than UT. Deadline is Nov 30 but CSU app is easy like UC app.
