Also today a former Stanford admissions officer took a look at my mom app essay and said it was really good. She had nothing but good things to say about it and nothing to critique. She said I answered the prompt perfectly and really revealed who I am.

@damianknight My common app essay is a narrative about skiing with my dad and how I enjoy a challenge. And I will likely apply to Claremont Mckenna and I am considering Pomona as well. I’m just unsure of how strong their biology program is. Thanks!

I think you will have a good chance no matter where you chose to apply. Your grades are high and your test scores are good, however almost all kids applying to top schools have high scores. Your extracurricular seem to be what will really make you stand out. You will probably have a good chance anywhere.

Duke (RD and ED): ED: Match, RD: High Match
Notre Dame: Match
Johns Hopkins: Low reach
WashU: Low Reach
Cornell: Reach
Penn: High Reach
USC: Match

I agree with a lot of the others - bring up that ACT and you’ll have a much more solid chance with these. Good luck!

Your application is incredible. So much demonstrated interest…it’s making my head boggle haha. I am also from Washington state…I have friends in your same programs at Fred Hutch…I would be surprised if we have friends of friends.

@onerepublic96 Why is Duke a high match for RD while Penn is a high reach? They both have 13% acceptance rates and the average SAT scores are slightly higher at Duke. I don’t understand why Duke is so much easier to get accepted to.

To answer your question for onerepublic96, it is because those stats are skewed. Duke may seem higher, but the stats for Wharton are arguably more competitive than the stats for all the other schools at Penn. You have not specified which school you are applying to at Penn so competitiveness cannot be gauged yet.

First off, may I say that this is a RIDICULOUS but awesome list of extracurricular activities. And it’s not just willy nilly; you’ve put time and commitment into all of these. Definitely the strong point of your application! I’m sure it’ll lead to some fantastic essay topics as well! I have to say the only weak point of your application is your ACT. If you improve it to a 34, you’ve got great shots at all these schools. The following chances are presuming you get a 33-34 on your ACT.

Duke ED: high match
Duke RD: low reach
UPenn: reach
JHU: low reach
Notre Dame: high match
WashU: low reach
Cornell: high match/low reach
USC: high match

@Timberwolf: The OP stated that his intended major is Biology. He annot take Biology at the Wharton School, only the College of Arts and Sciences.

You have a solid GPA and solid extra circulars, work on your act a bit and your chances will improve tremendously.
Duke (RD and ED): high match
Notre Dame: match
Johns Hopkins: Match
WashU: High Match
Cornell: low reach
Penn: low reach
USC: Match

You have decent chances at all of those schools. USC would probably be one of the easier ones out of the list, not saying that it’s easy. The other schools are probably matches, but you can never be completely sure.
