Chance Me please! I want to Get Into Cornell badly!!

Cornell is easily one of my top choice universities, here are my stats.

SAT I : 2310 Composite (2nd tri, got 2050 on first one--with almost no practice, though)
CR - 760
M - 780
W - 770 (12 essay)

Rank: 23/704
GPA: 4.34 (3.59 UW)

Explaining my transcript: 9th/10th grade, I made half A's and Half B's. In Junior year, I took all AP/IB and my lowest grade was a 91 in AP Calculus AB. Made straight A's 11th grade, basically. In first semester of 12th grade, my lowest grade was a 97 in AP US. Gov--in other words, theres a HUGE upward trend on my transcript.

EC's:
1. V. Debate (11, 12) - won awards at state level, nationals invite, governor's cabinet member (at recent state conference), Executive Government Planners State Finalist, Captain of Student Congress Team/EGP team
2. National Honor Society (10, 11, 12) - Vice President, teacher appreciation committee (more than 100+ members in this organization)
3. Class Council/Student Government (9, 11, 12) - Senior Class Treasurer, Executive Board Class of 2008
4. JV Tennis (9, 10th) - won a couple district tournaments here and there.
5. Mu Alpha Theta - Vice president

Volunteering:
1. Teen Court (9, 11, 12) - Teen Court Volunteer Attorney (Lead, for past 2 years)
2. Church Youth Group (9, 10, 11, 12) - Praise Band Bass Guitarist (4 yrs), Co-Chair of youth Group, Sunday School Teacher

I wrote a pretty good essay....idk if you wanna see it, i'll post that too. I applied to CALS Applied Management and Economics Major.

Feedback? I heard CALS is rolling. I called the adcom official, and she said they'll mail out my decision in 3 weeks. OMFG1111 haha

Are you an NYS resident? Your stats look good....so as long as you were able to show that you're a good fit for CALS and AEM you've got an awesome shot at admissions.

You're in, in my opinion. If there were extenuating circumstances, that could help explain your GPA a little, but it's still a decent level. ECs are good.

70% chance

now i know this is extremly bad of me to admitt, but no, there weren't any extenuating circumstances. tbh, its embarassing that I made B's in classes like pre-Ap algebra II my freshman year, and then turned around and made a solid A in AP calculus my junior year.

I made a 5 on that exam lol.

No, its just laziness....but i promise you, i learned my lesson. I've made straight A's in all my AP/IB classes since the start of 11th grade. I just hope Cornell sees that I wont repeat the same mistake again...

BUt there is one thing, they may consider. In the middle of freshman year, I transfered into a totally new HS....so it did take a little while to adjust...

i think you have a great shot in being admitted as long as Cornell can sense a sincere interest and match. Did you express this well?

u have a good shot. just relax ;)

your application, especially the debate stuff, looks awesome. i wouldn't worry about the gpa at all because it trends upward so much, plus your sat scores are above average. no one's questioning your intelligence. i know a couple of ppl with worse resumes who have gotten in.

of course, i am in no way qualified to judge. so i guess this is just an ego booster? :)

oh gosh, i hope i get in SOOO Badly. I love cornell, and I LOVe its location...i mean..snow snow sno. i used to live in canada....

I think my SAt's were high enough, but my rank wasn't too great....IDK but i made straight A's my 11th and 12th grade years...and i never ever made any C's....just several solid B's...ughhh

uuuughhhhh i need more feedback? hahaha

So, did you get in…?

Verrryyy good chance of getting in . Good luck

sat II and ap scores??

Note this is a very old thread, and it looks as if the original writer went to Northwestern.

I think you have a really great chance. The upward trend in your grades should certainly help and your testing is outstanding. It’s amazing that even with your “less-than-amazing” first two years, you were able to pull things together and get yourself into the top 3% of your class.

How did you do on your SAT2s? If you did well on those, you should be good.

The only problem I see is a lack of focus on Ag and Life Science related activities as far as your ECs go. Each college really considers fit. So you’ll need to explain yourself in your essay and demonstrate what you are interested in.

Best of luck! Again, I think you have a great shot. While my GPA was better than yours when I applied, my junior year grades were not nearly as impressive and your testing is far better than mine was.

did this person get in?
