NYU
UMass Amherst
Syracuse
ASU
UCSD
San Jose State University
Penn State
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Northeastern
USC-ED
GWU
UC Davis
Stanford-I know this is completely ridiculous but it's always been my dream. I've lived near it and been attending sports camps and academic courses here since I was 8. Collegeboard says 7% of the students admitted had a GPA between 3.5-3.74, so I decided why not.

GPA- 3.5 UW (Upward Trend)

Freshman-3.0
Sophomore-3.6
Junior 3.75
Senior (now)-3.8

School doesn't give class rank, but percentage is top 30%

SAT-2050

Math-700
Writing-650
Critical Reading-700

ACT-30

Very tough schedule. I'm an IB student, so my IB schedule is

HL Econ
HL Psychology
HL Chemistry
SL Math
SL English
SL History

My IB exam predicted scores are pretty high

EC

Varsity Basketball (9,10, 11, 12)-MVP 10, 11, 12 is currently going on
Varsity Tennis (9, 10, 11, 12)
Varsity Volleyball (9, 10, 11, 12)-MVP & Captain-12
Peer Counselling (10-12)
SAISA Music (9)
Model UN (10-12)
Internship at NASA Ames Research Center
100+ Volunteer Hours
2 years of school newspaper

Great teacher recommendations and solid essays

Received multiple subject awards

I was born and raised in California, but due to my parents' occupation I have lived in California, NJ, India and China. I am graduating from China. In spite of this I'm an American citizen so I'm not applying as international student. However, I'm not completely sure if I'm out of state for UC's, because we still have property in California and reside there 3 months a year

Family Income- ( I know most colleges are need-blind based, but I have heard stories and I'm just putting it out there because I know it could make a slight difference)

Father is the CEO of a large company, so no financial aid for any school. (I know some schools ask for donations and this could make a difference)

Also, I'm definitely not qualifying for any scholarships but I'm good enough at basketball and tennis (more basketball ) to succeed at the D2-D3 level

BUMP, anybody?

i know you might have preferences but i think san jose state would be ideal.they have excellent facilities and nice programs

it was meant to be my main safety :s
am i really in that bad shape for the rest of them?

Stanford is a high reach. You could probably get into NYU though.

Thanks for the response
yeah i know (about stanford)
but really about nyu? I thought it would be more of a reach. by that do you mean i have a solid shot at the schools ranked lower nyu too?

Stanford is a high reach. You could probably get into NYU though.

Stanford is the only school that might be a bit difficult to get into, but everywhere else, I don’t see why not! Chance me back please!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1026512-chance-pleaseeee-d.html

You’re on the upper end of the mid-50 SAT range for CR and M for NYU. For Writing, you’re right in the middle of the mid-50 range. This means that your SAT scores are essentially a match.

Also 37% of students admitted last year had GPAs between 3.5 and 3.74 (32% >3.75). So although your GPA could be better, it’s clearly good enough to get in.

Your ECs are also good. To be honest I don’t see why you wouldn’t get into NYU.

The main problem would be that NYU is known for giving very little need-based aid. That being said, it’s more important to get in first and worry about money second.
