Chance me please :) I'll Chance you backkkk!

Overall I’d say you have a pretty good chance at any of those schools! However, they are all extremely selective so it would be wise to have some safety schools too. Your GPA may be holding you back a bit, but try to emphasize other parts of your application when you send it off. Good luck!

I know some of those schools are really tough to get into so how do u guys think i would fair with UC berkeley, Uchicago, and UMich? Berkeley is actually my top choice bit my gpa is on the low side for that too…

Im debating between cornell and cmu ed

Princeton, high reach
UC Berkeley match
MIT, high reach
CMU, match
Cornell, low reach
UChicago, idk
UMich, match
Caltech, high reach
Stanford high reach

why do you want to go to these colleges? for the name im assuming?

Not really for the name. They are all really good at physics, which i have a really deep passion for. And berkeley is my #1 because its one of the top for physics and california is just amazing

GPA is the primary thing colleges look at and yours is not good enough. They will cast you aside and look at all the candidates with higher gpa’s first. If you get lucky, they might take a look at your app and consider you for your act score.

yeah thats what i thought…

I think you’ll definitely get into U Michigan and probably Berkeley but I don’t think the others are too likely :frowning: They’re some of the most competitive schools in the country. Good luck though and chance back!

I’d say most of those schools are long shots, but ya never know. Cornell seems to be the best fit and most likely to take you. My uncle went to Cornell and he is the national technical lead for nuclear power in America. There science program is stunning at Cornell and you seem to like science so I’d apply there.

you really think i have a shot at berkeley? From what ive seen, my GPA was on the extremely mediocre side. Like everybody who went there had 3.8+

To give you comfort, Physics is in the College of Letters and Sciences in Berkeley, which is easier to get into than College of Engineering. Here are some stats for 2009:
Compare to Letters&Science 2832 students enrolled
SAT Read Write Math Total
25% 580 590 610 1780
75% 700 710 750 2160
from: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/795249-berkeley-engineering-admissions-vs-berkeley-l-s-admissions.html</a>
I’m in Berkeley right now, and I think you have a great shot! (but physics 7a is quite hard and time consuming :(…)

Hey thanks for the great stats man but I hear berkeley is more GPA oriented rather than SAT or ACT. My UC gpa is about 3.82 which is pretty darn low. Since you are in berkeley, do you have any advice that might help me get admitted? I really really want to go there. And honestly even if i got into all the colleges on my list, I would choose berkeley.

agree with wave tech on ACT. Taking it again not worth it and potential negative.

Okay so I wont retake it then. Are guys sure a 35 is good enough?

im bumping

bumpbumpbump

There is nothing u can do about the uc gpa, but really show interest. The personal statement is the 2nd most important part in my opinion. I read on a report that they rank each candidate, and those who are borderline or near borderlind, they read their personal statement to see if they really want to be here. If u r still borderline, the they will ask additional information in january-february, if im not mistaken. I think u have a good chance of getting in though! you really show interest in berkeley, whooo!

Any advice on how to make my personal statement stand out and how to show I am really interested in berkeley?

If there are kids who get in every year with 3.5 GPAs to top schools, you would be one of them. Spectacular ECs, make sure your passion shows in your essays!

I’m also taking some online courses at Berkeleyx (through edx). Do you guys think that will increase my chances at berkeley?

I actually don’t think that your GPA excludes you entirely from Stanford. It may be a stretch, but from my own research, it seems like they assess potential applicants in a very holistic manner, so if you can shine in your other departments (which I already believe you do in terms of ECs and your ACT), I think you still have a shot (though take me with a grain of salt because at the end of the day I’m just a nervous wreck of a high school senior myself!). Best of luck to you!
