Chance me please :) I'll Chance you backkkk!

Please Chance me for Princeton, UC Berkeley, MIT, CMU, Cornell, UChicago, UMich, Caltech, Stanford

Assuming i write good essays, how are my chances? From what I've seen, they don't seem too good (which makes me kind of sad). I screwed up a lot my freshman and sophomore year. I just didn't take school seriously enough. Though my junior year was an improvement, its still not "great".

Cum GPA = 3.47 (4.23 weighted)
Freshman gpa = 3.29
Sophomore gpa = 3.43
Junior GPA = 3.69
Freshman year really killed my gpa... i would have a 4.5 weighted if it wasn't for the massive amount of Bs i got that year. (Breakdown below)

ACT: 35 (retaking to try and get a 36)

AP Physics C: 5 on both
AP Biology: 5
AP Calc BC: 5
AP Spanish Lang: 4

Senior year APs: AP CompSci, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry

EC's:
Researching at Princeton University
Science Olympiad state champion
Part of the Chess team (First in states Nov '11)
Part of Ultimate frisbee team (5th in eastern division, 2nd in states)
Volunteered for many Indian Music organizations over the summer (Easily over 300 hours)
President of the Physics Olympiad Team (A study team where we prepare for Physics Olympiad Exams)
Taken EECS course at MITx and got an A (Can be verified w/certificate)
Taking a few Berkeleyx courses this fall

Play Indian drums and have performed many concerts and won several prizes

Freshman year: (Geometry Hns taken over the summer:A)
Bio Hns:B
World History:B
Algebra 2 Hns:B
Spanish 3: B
English Hns:B

Sophomore year: (Precalc Hns taken over summer:A)
AP Calc AB: A
Physics Hns: A
Chemistry Hns: B
English Hns: B
American studies Hns: B
Spanish 4 Hns: B

Junior Year (AP Calc BC taken over summer: A)
Multivariable Calculus: A (Not an AP)
AP Physics C: A
AP Biology: A
AP Spanish: B
English Hns: B

There is really no point in retaking your excellent ACT.

Thats what a lot of people tell me but I am trying to compensate in any way possible for my terrible GPA. I was a bad student for a good part of high school and I want to make up for it.

Why don’t you apply for Dartmouth? I’d say you’d stand a decent chance there. Your EC’s look excellent.
Have a look at my thread too. And chance me :P

Your ECs are great, especially your musical accomplishments.
I second applying to Dartmouth.
Are you in state for any of them? That might help you out. Your GPA might really hurt you, but your ACT scores is phenomenal. I think some of the state schools might be kinder about your GPA.
I would interview anywhere possible to help (as long as you are personable and interview well).

Please chance me! :)

I live in NJ (like 5 miles away from princeton) so that would be the only in state. You guys think that my research position at Princeton University will help my chances? I’m also planning to get a supplementary rec from my professor. Would that help?

I do think the rec letter from the professor and the research will help some, but Princeton’s applicant pool is very strong. If you write a phenomenal essay and have a fantastic interview, it will probably help your chances, but your GPA might still be a major factor.

Your gpa is way too low to be even considered by any of those schools. Some of the lower end schools on your list like UCB and UMich are on the reach side for you. Yeah you got a good act but you EC’s are nothing too special.

Everything is great (especially EC’s and your ACT score) except your GPA. I’m in your boat with screwing up freshman year, but make sure your guidance counselor (or whoever is writing your recs) emphasizes that your GPA has increased every year. Colleges love to see improvement and sometimes just seeing the letters isn’t enough for them to understand how much you’ve improved. You’re probably good for UMich and CMU, possibly U Chicago too. Berkeley, MIT, Cornell, Stanford, and Princeton are reaches but you have a chance. I don’t know much about Cal Tech. Good luck :)

Chance me back please http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1391988-pleeeaseee-chance-me-engineering-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

With a UC gpa of 3.84, you think i have a chance at berkeley? Berkeley is my top choice there but one again, the gpa is pretty low… I wish i wasnt such a bad student for a good part of high school.

Good chances at UChicago and possibly Berkeley. Your ECs are great and ACT is great. Just write good essays. Chance me back please? (:

For the top schools in your list (Ivies, MIT, CalTech, and Stanford), your GPA will pretty much keep you out of consideration.

Also, there is no point in retaking the ACT. It won’t “compensate” for your low GPA. If anything, it’ll make you look like a stubborn perfectionist who wastes their time taking tests. Spend your time more wisely.

how do you think ill fair with berkeley?

Dude your gpa is just way too low

Anybody else?

I think you definitely have a good shot at all these schools, but I think Princeton I’d out of reach. Chance me back?

Don’t be discouraged by your GPA!
Chin up and just apply cause you never know what might happen. You’re really well-rounded which is almost as important statistics-wise. You could definitely pull that GPA up by the end of first semester. Remember, getting into college isn’t all about fitting in to a certain type of student - it’s more important to stand out as a person. I think your resume gives you lots of great boosts. GPA isn’t everything, and I think your colleges will be able to see how hard you work to compensate for it :)

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1368090-hey-i-just-met-you-crazy-but-here-my-ecs-so-chance-me-maybe.html</a></p>

Are first semester grades counted in the gpa?

I agree Dartmouth would be a good choice for you, you ec’s are outstanding and they will help you a lot especially if they are varying between two applicants. Your ACT’s are also going to be a big help. Your GPA is quite high enough however it does help that you have improved over the years. Did you take any SAT’s? Most colleges care a lot about those. All in all, I’d say write an amazing essay, and there’s no harm in applying - you have nothing to loose except roughly $50 for the application itself! Good luck! And chance me please!

I took the Math 2 and Physics SATs with an 800 on both. And I am applying for a Physics major and Dartmouth really isnt in the higher rankings for physics so thats why I’m not applying there
