So its November and i'm already paranoid/anxious about the admission process

I'm applying to UCI as a public health major and UCLA as a neuroscience major

Stats

GPA: 3.78
Science GPA: 3.80
IGETC: Complete
Major Pre-Reqs: All complete (aside from Physics which, unfortunately, I understand is highly suggested for UCLA)
TAG: Complete for UCI
EC: Worked about 30 hours/week for my entire community college career
Nothing else. . .
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Asian
In state: yes

I understand this is for UCs but im also applying to USC so if anyone has information on that, that would be of assistance as well. Thank you!

I think you have a very good change at UCI. For UCLA, it’s kind of 50/50 because it is UCLA after all. But actually, the average admit rate for neuroscience major in 2013 was 23%, so it’s not too bad. The average admitted GPA for neuroscience is 3.75, so you are a little above that. ECs don’t matter much, the only thing that would be weighted against you is that physics pre-req you didn’t complete. I’m not sure how much it will impact your chances, but if that really is your only pre-req and you have others complete (depending on how many others there are) your chances shouldn’t be hurt too bad. It’s not as competitive as engineering after all.

Thank you for the reply and information.
I also wanted to clarify something in regards to my GPA

I have a 3.78 cumulative
~3.80 science GPA

But i believe a 4.0 for my major GPA (the required classes listed on assist for the neuroscience major)

Which GPA will they likely place most emphasis?
My science GPA was brought down by Anatomy/Physio but from my understanding they are not required for my major. All the ones necessary (calculus, chemistry, bio, english etc) I maintained a 4.0.

To be honest, I think you are totally fine. 4.0 major GPA is amazing, and ~3.80ish overall isn’t that much below it and still above the average admit GPA, so you’re fine there. I’m certain they look at overall GPA (if you failed non-major classes that’s still bad), but in your case it is not significantly lower anywho, and the fact that you maintained straight As for major classes is a good thing. Again the non-As in non-major classes isn’t bad at all (unless you failed them or something). But you should be fine. Good luck!
