Hi! Parent of a WashU 2021 ED admit. You might want to take my advice with a grain of salt.

WashU is a low reach. ACT is way better than SAT. The ACT score is slightly lower than the 50% score but some ED students with 30 got in. I’m concerned about the low UW GPA compared to the weighted one. You would have had a decent chance if you applied ED. Check out the WashU thread to see how you would compare.

The low UW GPA will likely result in rejections by Michigan and Virginia especially since you’re OOS. Those schools are GPA/test score driven.

Duke is a massive reach as well. Nothing really stands out for Duke.

Lots of AP classes, but no scores. Did you take any tests? It’s not a deal breaker but it might raise red flags at the more prestigious schools. I would also try to take a couple of SAT subject tests if you have time.

ECs are OK, but nothing stands out compared to most applicants.

BU looks OK. You are within their range GPA and test score wise. Same with GWU and possibly Miami.

You are definitely in at UF/OSU. BU/GWU/University of Miami are high match/low reach. NYU is a low reach since they get tons of applicants. Low reach for WashU and Duke, Michigan, and UVA are high reaches/likely rejections.

NYU - Your GPA is slightly below average but in range (3.64). Your weighted GPA is well above, however. Your ACT is above the average 29 among applicants. I’d say this is a match for you, however they receive many apps and have become more competitive.

Miami - Your GPA is slightly below average but in range (3.59). Your ACT is higher than the average 29. I’d say you’re a match here as well but they have also become more competitive due to an increase in popularity.

Michigan - Your GPA is below the average 3.73. Your ACT is a match. They weight GPA more than tests, so this unfortunately doesn’t work in your favor. Michigan also considers geographical location, so this would make it more difficult. I’d consider this a reach for you.

Virginia - Your GPA is below the average 3.75. Your ACT is a match. Like Mich, they weight GPA higher than tests. Only 10% of accepts are out of state, and even those who are extremely qualified get rejected from VA. I’d say this is a reach for you.

Florida - Your GPA is slightly below average but in range (3.63). Your ACT is above average (28). Considering you are in state, I’d say this is a good match for you.

GW - Your GPA is slightly below the average 3.64 but in range. Your ACT is above the average 30. They have become more competitive in recent years. Based on your #'s and activities, I’d say this is fair match, but you never know with this process.

Duke - Your GPA is below the average 3.8. Your ACT is a match. Duke is extremely competitive with only a 10% admit rate, so I’d consider this is reach for you.

WashU - Your GPA is below the average 3.79. Your ACT is slightly below the average 32. Given the competition, I’d say this is a reach for you RD.

BU - Your GPA is below the average 3.7. Your ACT is above the average 30. BU is competitive, focusing on GPA more than activities, so I’d say this is a fair match to slight reach.

Ohio State - Your GPA is a match, and your ACT is well above the average 28. They weight #s more than extracurriculars. I’d say this is a good match.
