Hey there CC! I would really appreciate it if you could chance me for U of M.
Here are my stats:
-4.0 UW GPA so far throughout HS (I am currently a junior)
-32 ACT (first try, will retake in June)
-Class rank is estimated top 10%
-White female, Michigan resident, public school in rural area, middle income
APs (6): envi sci, calc AB, lang, gov, stats, lit* (*planning to take senior year)
ECs: Human Rights Alliance (president), Student Council (secretary/treasurer), NHS, student director of 3 school plays, school climate committee member, member of a USA Swimming competitive team, employed at local restaurant, 50 total hours of community service.
Honors: honor roll every quarter so far, Freshman Female Scholar, David House Culinary Award.
I hope for recommendations from my English teacher (I have a very solid relationship with her and she writes very strong recommendations), my math teacher (her recommendations are also well-regarded), and my counselor.
You look to be a very competitive applicant, and considering you’re in-state, if you maintain that 4.0 and get your ACT up a little higher, I would say you have a great chance!
You have a pretty good chance already if for LSA. Prep for the SAT well as the MME is coming up. If you get a score above 1500, you should be able to get the one time $1500 Regents Scholarship.
I would say that judging from your stats & EC’s, you stand a solid chance for UMich, especially since you’re OOS. Try to retake the ACT & see how you do, or try taking the SAT and scoring at least a 1500. But honestly, just keep it up with your academics & EC’s throughout your junior year & 1st semester of senior year, and you will be in good shape. Good luck to you!
Even instate competition is getting tougher. She has great stats but nationally a 33 is much stronger and a 34 would make her a solid choice. Going from 32-33 is really just a few questions. Strengthen your weakness and also strengthen your strengths. Going from 32-34 is actually not to tough but does require some dedicated time and/or a tutor to assist you. Good luck.
ACT 32 is at or above admission average for in state students and certainly above average among in-state applicants. The in state admission rate for 2016 and 2017 are both at 45%. Together with uwGPA 4.0, OP’s chance is way above 50% already for LSA.
I agree but 32 is still to common. The OP might also be applying out of state and a 32 doesn’t cut it at the more competitive schools. If she is above a 50% with a 32 then she would be in a much better position with a 33/34 and in a position for scholarship money not just at Michigan but at other schools that she might be applying to. That’s all I am saying.
ACT 34 is not likely for merit scholarship other than the Regents at UMuch as it is just the 75th percentile. SAT is mandated in Michigan as part of the MME and it is free. That’s why OP should look into that. Sure high the score, the better for admission chance. Applying to other school is out of the scope of the discussion here. Nevertheless, if OP is looking at CoE, then it may need a higher score spending on the Math section.
