I plan on raising my SAT I scores.
I'm from a low-income family.
I work.
I first generation college student.
I plan on majoring in Biomedical Engineering (also... is it better form me to declare myself undecided to increase my chances?)

Reach with current SAT Scores. SATII is also low.
Your rank and GPA are your strong suit.
ECs are pretty average for an applicant of this caliber school…not entirely sure what the recognition of the “societies” does only because my school does not have them.

First generation matters, working matters. Low income…not at all. Vanderbilt is need blind so they cannot use that in any way to determine admissions.

as I was reading down your record I was thinking “no way,” not in the RD, but then I hit that nice little “Latina who’s #4 in a class of 400 who’s thinking engineering” and I got to wondering how many latinas with that kind of promise Vandy picked up in ED1. The more I read the more I like your chances, Oryx. Will you be happy there? will you find the support at Vandy that will enable you to improve, say, your standardized test-taking skills? particularly if you decide to go to professional or grad school, that will be an important skill to improve upon. I don’t know the school well enough to know that, but they sure have the money to make it happen. You might ask an admissions officer a question like that. Make them see that they have a place in your life just as you have one in Vandy’s.

OP - Have you considered taking the ACT? S (Class of 2017) didn’t do well on the SATs and he did not submit. He did better on his ACT (but still not in the middle 50). The rest of his application was terrific. He’s studying mechanical engineer. You have a lot of good things in your application.
