I would say you have a chance but since you're out of state I can honetly say it could go either way...

But im pretty sure you could get in :) but if not I'm positive you definetely have a high chance for spring semester... :(

Thanks, with the economy the way it is, many ppl want to stay in state since its cheaper, but i don't want to go to rutgers, and princeton is out of my league. lol

I would say it depends on what you want to major in...I am assuming something in journalism. Your gpa is what is hurting you. I would suggest you look at the NJ/NY thread to get a better idea. You need to realize that although UMD accepts alot from NJ/NY area (it seems sometimes that UMD should be UMD/NJ/NY) they also have a lot of applicants which makes the comp more difficult than if you were OH or Tenn. They want to have a broad spectrum and just not one state/region.

GOOD LUCK...GO TERPS BEAT DUKE

I agree, butt my GPA made a great improvement from soph to junior, and i know schools like upward trends. BTW, my dad uncle both went to Duke...lol

I would think that you would get in. Though OOS is a slight disadvantage, I'd still say you've got about a 65% chance of getting accepted.

That said, what are your other options?

My daughter has similar stats. She has a 3.45 unweighted GPA and a 2000/2400 SAT score. She took four AP courses and many honors classes. She is out of state (Pennsylvania). She was admitted to spring session and put on the wait list for the fall.

Best of luck to you!! I hope you hear some good news soon.

Where will she go?

idk they sound good to me, im OOS and got honors with 1960 (1290) and a 98.7W

I just graduated from Maryland last spring and can tell you that if you are planning on pursuing journalism there, maybe you already know this, but it is a limited enrollment major, meaning you have to go through two separate admissions processes. That's what I had and the journalism school at Maryland, while fantastic, is one of the toughest. They have the hardest 'no exceptions' policy ever! Therefore, you should look into the requirements for freshman admission for journalism, or any other major you're considering. There's a few at Maryland that are limited enrollment. I think you have a good chance, your weighted GPA will work in your favor for sure. Unweighted, would not be so competitive for Maryland, especially since you're out of state. Hopefully they won't consider the unweighted! Your activities look good as well. How's your essay? I can tell you this, Maryland is very big on diversity and anything you can do to make yourself stand out as a competitive applicant, would be great. That being said, I really hope you get in. It's a great school, it fulfilled all of the academic expectations I had about college and much more. Best of Luck!!! Let me know if I can offer you any information that may be of help to you.

thanks, i didnt know about that whole seperate admission process.

know someone fron NJ with very similar stats admitted to journalism already this year....if I didn't, I would have agreed with other posters that it would be difficult.....in fact, I think your SAT is higher (they have a 30 ACT)....unweighted, weighted almost identical......although balanced throughout, rather than upward trend.....
