I'm instate, go to an IB school, currently a sophomore in the MYP program.
Freshman year GPA was low: 2.8,
this year it should be around a 3.2 - 3.3. This first quarter I got a 3.2, but my grades have been improving.
I hope that junior year (full ap) will be something around a 3.4 - 3.6
I am in all honors classes, for both freshman and sophomore years.

I have also been studying for my SAT since freshman year
I'm one of the few sophomores in my class in two AP classes, (AP NSL, AP Computer Programming 2)
Senior year, I plan to get a internship programming at a company.
I play both football and lacrosse and plan to for my entire high school career.
Freshman year I was in the Arabic club, this year I am in a fundraising club, I plan to make y own fundraising club next year.
Both my brothers went to UMD.
I am a Hispanic. I do lots of volunteering around my community

Most of the things I listed were 'plan' but I'm just nervous because collegeboard says
68% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
17% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
9% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
4% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
2% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99
But I have read on the forums people with 3.2's getting in. What are some tips to make me more confident, am I in?

The biggest thing you can do is continue pursuing the things you are interested in while continuing to improve your grades.

I know the avg. WEIGHTED GPA for incoming Maryland students is 3.8. That means some people who have taken extremely heavy courseloads might have an UW GPA of 3.2 but a weighted of 3.8 or close to it.

The fact that you’re taking AP/IB courses will def. not be lost on Maryland. In my experience Maryland places a huge, huge emphasis on course difficulty/weighted GPA. So a kid in the IB track with a 3.2 and good SAT scores (usually people in the AP/IB tracks score very well on the SATs even if their GPA is a bit lower) is usually accepted, but a kid who was taking regular classes with a 3.2 does not even usually bother applying to UMCP, instead going for some of the other schools in the state.

You’re REALLY young so you have a lotttt of time to improve your grades. Obviously very few people get into Maryland with below a 3.0. A 3.2 or below a 3.2 is pretty borderline…even with a heavy courseload that brings you just barely up to average/slightly below average for an admit. I think the 3.2s with strong courseloads are usually carried by above average SAT scores, also accountin for why you’ve seen 3.2s accepted. But keep plugging away and getting the best grades you can - your biggest chance of getting admitted is to improve your cumulative GPA and keep up an upward trend. Good luck. Also it’ll help that you’re hispanic but if you keep with the 2.8s that won’t be enough to get you in ;).

Your plan sounds good though. Keep at it :).

Yeah, what she said. Keep working hard and it’ll show on your app. You sound ambitious, but not overly so(which is a good thing), however don’t forget to be a high schooler. You’re only a sophomore, you’ve got all of 2nd semester of junior year and 1st semester of senior year to really worry about college :P

Unless it impacted your GPA that much (i.e. refigure what your gpa would be if you assume an A in the class), I can’t imagine that it would be worth it. Your grades are fine, and as long as you keep improving them, that’s what they will care about. You’d be better off to take something new and different to show you want to learn more, if you really want to take a summer class. Chillax. You’re doing great.

For summer school, I could retake core courses like math, (I got a D first semester, C second) but if I retake it, the new grade will be an average of the summer school grade and freshman year grade and it would not be an honors class anymore.

I decided that over the summer I am going to retake first semester of my freshman honors geometry class. Since I got a D that semester it was not weighted. How am I looking?
