I currently reside in Maryland, and I visited UCSB over spring break. I am Asian and I as also adopted at the age of 6 months. I saw UCSB and I instantly fell in love. I think that it is going to be a slight reach for me. I attend a top public school in the country, my UC GPA is about a 4.06. So far I have taken 4 AP's, unfortunately received a 3 on all of them. My ACT/SAT scores are a super reach for UCSB too, ACT: 24 (planning on taking it again, hopefully bump it up 3 points) I got a 12 on the essay though... The SAT I have taken twice, and both times I didn't study very much, the best score I have received is Math: 600 CR: 550 and Writing: 610. For 12 years of my life I was a top level gymnast, but a head injury caused me to quit, so that was basically my extracurricular cause I participated from 24 - 34 hours a week. I have a done various volunteering activities, part of the National Chinese Honors Society, and I have taken a college course at this local college (bioengineering) and I am taking an online computer course at UCBerkley. I know know know know that UCSB will be a reach for me, but please please please tell me what you think. Thanks!

I want to apply to UCSB, UCI, UCD, USD, Pepperdine, and some others along the east coast which I think I can get into, but I am mostly worried about the California schools.
It would be greatly appreciated if I could have your input, thanks!

Hmm… you know I think it may be a reach but there’s no harm in trying. I think if you write a good essay then you will be definitely considered! Since you visited it can still work because college’s like that. I suggest getting in touch with a professor off of the staff email list on the website. Just email em and tell em that you really like the program they offer and if you can get in touch with a student of theirs who you can talk to (throw a little bit of your background in). Plus, if you’ve taken a heavy course load they’ll show a lil mercy. OK GOOD LUCK!
