Slim chance for early action , 50% chance on RD.
You will need something in your application to stand out among the crowd , your SAT scores are in the lower end of accepted scores and your EC are weak compared to the average applicant.
First generation helps , White female from NJ does not.
Good Luck!

My ACT is a bit higher when converted to sja’s SAT conversion, and I have a lot more ECS plus better essays since I have a ton to write about. Do you feel it would benefit us to apply RD since many qualified applicants will be in the EA pool and we would probably get deferred anyway? And what type of aid can I expect with a widowed mother making <35,000 with a brother who is also in college (USD)?

didn’t mean to steal this post, consider it a bump/ important question for us both to hear answered

Applying EA and being deferred does not hurt your application , and may help showing interest. There are many deferred that ultimately end up attending.
