You seem like a really solid applicant overall aside from your SAT score which is below average, but I wouldn’t stress on it too much. Your GPA and course load look great! and so does your EC’s. The important thing is that you applied, but I doubt the SAT alone would make/break whether you’re admitted to UW or not. Good Luck!

While you have a fantastic GPA, your SAT could be a little higher. As an Asian-American, you will be competing against a lot of other Asian students with much higher test scores then you. I am applying to the UW too (I even lived there for several weeks doing an intership) and there are a lot of competitive applicants. Just remember that the UW prides itself on its diversity, so if you are a unique candidate then you stand a very good chance.

Lol, what XaviFM said. Seriously, they’re not allowed to take race into consideration even though they ask for it… this isn’t Stanford or MIT (private). UW actually gets around this by prodding students to talk about ‘diversity’ in their application (race, religion, sexual orientation, anything!). They really have a big emphasis on it.

Anyway, yeah the SAT score is kind of a black hole in there. However, the rest of your application is pretty strong. If your essays are well written, I really do think you still have a chance. Not all is lost! :)

Yeah, according to the administration the only reason they ask for your race is because they are required to in order to be able to continue taking certain federal aid money. It’s the federal government that wishes to track the number of students of different ethnic groups.

They do try to build larger applicant pools of minorities and they were on me (Hispanic) to make sure I came to UW. They actually sent UW reps to the African Student Union at Bellevue College and there’s these 6 girls I see studying at the library who all came to UW together from there and they’re all from Kenya/Uganda. But I think that diversity could be represented by being a Viet or Hmong or any other number of ethnicities which come from Asia.
