I'm a junior and I met my counselor about post high school planning today actually.
My GPA is roughly around 3.5. I took AP Calc AB and AP Microeconomics this year and I'm planning to take 4 more AP classes next year.

I didn't take the SAT yet I got around 1750 on the practice exam, planning to raise it over 1800 for the one I'll take on October.

I want to major in actuarial science and I know PSU has excellent program for it.

I'm really nervous that I won't get into PSU main due to my GPA..

I think I'm going to get a B for Calc this year which I don't know if it'll bring my GPA down.. GPA is my biggest stress right now..

Please, chance me! I'll take any advices to increase my chance to get in. Thank you!

3.5 weighted or unweighted? SAT is good, but 2/3 decision is based around GPA. 3.5 weighted would be pretty low, and 3.5 unweighted is still lower 25%

3.5 is out of 4.0 system.
yeah so I was wondering if I should apply later in by Jan. 30th with increased GPA or just apply by November or December.

Well I’m pretty sure PSU’s priority applications are due by November. So if you apply after that there’s hardly a chance you’ll get in, especially with a low GPA for them when they hold it in high regard. Theres always the 2+2 campus plan, but I wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to do that. I don’t know how difficult it is to transfer in as a sophomore though.

they will not look at your mid term or first quarter grades anyway.

apply early as possible.
show interest, visit the school, write an essay thats geared towards penn state, opt to do summer session. I wouldnt be surprised if you got summer session. i dont know.

It’s impossible to give anyone a definite. I only took 2 AP’s in high school (it was a small school and they only offered 5), but had a 4.0 gpa, 11th out of 150 or so (ridiculously competitive), and a 1650 SAT. However, I applied as a transfer student with a 3.8 college gpa, so SAT scores thankfully did not need to be sent. It’s a shame that that’s what they base most of their decision on, but with such a huge school, I guess that’s the only non insanity-inducing way.
