Hi, I am a female from NJ and it has always been my dream to get into William and Mary, especially because of its location in Colonial Williamsburg. I want to become a colonial history teacher, so it is the perfect school for me if I have any chances of getting in.
I am an upcoming junior and I have taken all honors classes, so my weighted average is about a 96 (it would be much higher, but no honors electives were offered so my average goes down).
Also, unfortunately, I am in the 2nd decile instead of 1st because my school has a high cheating rate on tests/quizzes and the teachers do not care. I pride myself on never cheating but that does not show on a transcript, so next year I am going to work much harder to boost my grades.
Junior year schedule: AP US History II, AP English, AP Psychology, Honors Constitutional Law, Honors Spanish, PreCalc, Physics
ECs: volleyball (freshman and JV), Current Events Club, 3D Design Club, Science Club, trying to start a charity club next year, joining a colonial re-enactment group over the summer
Volunteer: American Cancer Society, town museum, public library, center for food action, tutoring
However, because I have not taken the SATs, I know it is hard to evaluate me, but assuming that I will to well on them, please chance me and be honest. Also, I might consider ED if I have a chance.

ED will certainly boost your chances. I suggest looking for leadership opportunities, such as becoming an officer in one of the clubs you are a member of. Starting a group or club is an excellent way to earn leadership experiences.

Take the hardest course you are able to while maintaining excellent (mostly A’s) grades.

If you don’t do will on the SAT, try the ACT. Take either twice if you are not happy with the score. Don’t worry too much about SAT II’s since W&M do not use them in their admission process. (But be sure to keep tabs on what other schools you are applying to may require)

Go for an interview, be sure to submit a supplement. For your essay, write about a part of you that is not addressed in other parts of your application - W&M embraces the quirky, unique side of their applicants - show it :)

Good luck!

Thank you SO much! It is very appreciated.

Unfortunately, my school “ran out of spots” in the honors programs for math and science, so next year I am taking two college prep classes. How much will that hurt me?
I am going from all honors for my core classes for 9th and 10th grade to that… I am taking 3 APs and 2 honors in addition, but will it hurt me that I am not taking honors math/physics? (My school district went on strike this year and significantly cut back on teaching, which had a huge effect on the students)
I know that not taking honors math and science will boost my grade up a LOT, but will it get rid of all of my chances for schools like W&M?

You should be able to explain any schedule limitations in your application. I doubt it would be held against you. If you are unsure where to include this, just give W&M Admissions a call and they will be happy to help you. They want you to succeed!

Thanks so much! I really hope it isn’t held against me because those were my best subjects as a freshman and I know I am capable of taking honors.
