I am a female from NJ and I have always wanted to go to W&M because I am a complete history buff.
I am only a sophomore, so I do not have any standardized testing scores, but if I do well on them, will I have a chance?
I want to study colonial history and become and American history teacher.
I have about a 96 weighted GPA which will definitely go up next year (no honors/AP electives were offered, so they lower my grades a lot).
I am not sure about my rank but I am guessing top 10 or 20%?
Junior Schedule: AP History, AP English, AP Psychology, Honors Constitutional Law, Honors Spanish, Honors PreCalc, Physics
ECs: HS Volleyball (2 yrs), Current Events Club (2 yrs), Class Committee (2 yrs), 3D Design Club (1 yr), Science Club (1 yr), going to start either a Christian fellowship or World Vision (charity) club
Volunteer: "Homework Help" at my town's library, Center for Food Action, Ramapo College of NJ, Senior Living Home
I am also going to join a colonial re-enactment group over the summer that goes to places like Valley Forge, Philadelphia, and Williamsburg.

Getting into W&M would be my dream come true, but I understand how hard it is and I would like to know if I have any chance? Thank you SO much for reading this!

How can a 96 be weighted if you didnt take any honors/APs? Next year, I’m sure you’ll work hard, but going from no honors/APs sophomore to 3 APs and 3 Honors is going to be a HUGE, HUGE change. Even if you work your butt off, your GPA and involvement in ECs may slip. A slightly less rigorous schedule may enable you to achieve a higher GPA and other outside accomplishments. You seem like you’d have a decent/pretty good shot. Do lots of practice for SAT (and try out ACT, some people greatly prefer it), and look into other college websites to find what W&M specifically looks for in applicants.

college … ******* .com and college … board .org (without those dots) are great

those stars are supposed to say (prow. ler) (without the dot and space)

Sorry I wasn’t clear… I have been in all honors every year for my main classes (history, english, science, math, spanish), but no honors electives were offered.

oh non-academic ELECTIVES. that makes more sense. Now, I’d say you have a great chance, at least from an academic standpoint. Stay focused in and improve your ECs, study up for those standardized tests, and you don’t need to worry at all. :)

Thanks- you’re so encouraging!

I know W&M is a fantastic school, but how can I make myself stand out compared to all of the rest of the OOS applicants?
