Do I have any chance at William and Mary? EA?

It is my DREAM school, but I am an OOS (NJ) female and I keep hearing how hard it is for my demographic. I want to be a Colonial American History Teacher, so W&M is perfect, but I do not want to be set on a school that I will not get into.
I just finished my sophomore year, so I do not have SAT scores yet, but my average is about a 96 (weighted) will all honors classes and I am taking 3 APs and 2 honors next year also.
Unfortunately, I am in the 2nd decile, but by the end of next year I should be in the 1st.

Do I have ANY chance of getting in if I apply Early Decision(*It was supposed to say ED in the question, sorry)?
Does my intended major change my chances?

its hard to say at this point… but you better have good grades and test scores since you are out of state. I think you should befriend your history/english teachers next year so they can write good recs for you (since you’re planning to major in a humanities subject). Also try to convey your passion for history through any extra curricular’s.

I think you would have a chance during ED if you continue doing well in school. Also I don’t believe your major would be a hinderance, however, if you feel like it may be, you could always apply with an “undecided” major.

I agree with missjulia423 that it will depend on your test scores and recs. But if show a clear passion in history you should be fine.

P.S. PLZ CHANCE BACK DESPERATE!!!

If you really love Colonial American history, you should consider W&M’s NIAHD program (National Institute of American History and Democracy). It’s a three-week program. You take a freshman-level W&M class (either on the 1607-Revolution or Revolution-Civil War time periods). it’s very hands-on, with a field trip to colonial sites nearby and a seminar discussion in the afternoon. You get four W&M credits for the class.

I did it last summer and I learned so much about colonial history. It also shows W&M that you are interested in that field and capable of succeeding, based on the grade that you get for the class.

PM me if you want more information. The page is [William & Mary - National Institute of American History & Democracy](National Institute of American History & Democracy | William & Mary)

Thank you all so much! So helpful!

Luckily, I am really, really good friends with all of my history and english teachers in HS and I have a great relationship with them.

And “doctorwhofan”, that is extremely helpful! I enjoy learning about history and Williamsburg is paradise for me, so I would love participating in the program.

On Naviance, according to my high school, 5/14 people were accepted to W&M and it was everybody with a great SAT score, so I guess that is the big deciding factor!

Yeah, you should really look into it. PM me if you want to know any details or have any questions!
