Almost done with the application and I was just curious (: thank you!

Unless you’ve at least founded a not-for-profit corporate entity that caters exclusively to the disabled I don’t see how you have a realistic shot at UMich.

I don’t know why kids like you bother with these inane “chance me” threads. If you got a 34 on the ACT you should know full well that your score is right at the top of the scale. If you look at the admission stats for Michigan, you will see that roughly 9000 kids are accepted for in-state slots. Of those 9000, about 3700 enroll in the school. But consider the number of students in state that scored anywhere near 34:
36 - 45 students
35 and above - 314 students
34 and above - 817 students
33 and above - 1,611 students
32 and above - 2,743 students
31 and above - 4,166 students
30 and above - 6,050 students
29 and above - 8,313 students

The point here is that based on the 9000 that Michigan accepts from instate, for Michigan to reject a student with a 34 on their ACT would mean that they would need to incrementally pick up someone at 28 or lower. That’s a big spread from 28 to 34 - and the numbers assume that everybody scoring 29 or above at least applies to U of M. And when you consider that the ACT composite for the lower 25% of those enrolling is 28, then you can see that my logic is correct. And since you’re in the top 10% with your ACT (and the grades look good too), unless you come across as a real jerk in your essays, you should know that Michigan should be an easy acceptance for you.

Because as long as there is a chance they can get rejected (no matter how small it is), they are going to be nervous. There is always someone who everyone thinks is a shoe-in and who doesn’t get in.

The funny thing is there is nothing anyone on cc can say that will change this. We can tell them U-M is a safety and they will be just as nervous.
