Chance Me? Please?

<p>Hey guys so I'm new here and my first choice college looks like it is going to be Rice University. I was wondering if you could provide your opinions on whether or not I have a shot at getting in. I am from New Jersey and I am Caucasian. My stats are below: </p>

<p>ACT: 34 Composite, 33 English, 34 Math, 32 Reading, 35 Science. 32 Combined English Writing with an Essay score of 10.</p>

<p>GPA: 3.9 unweighted. 4.15 weighted (4.5 scale)</p>

<p>Class Rank: School Does not rank, but top 10% (at least)</p>

<p>AP classes: This year I am taking 3 APs (Spanish lang, Psychology, and Bio). Next year I am taking 3 (Statistics, BC Calculus, and English Language). Hoping for mostly 5s, maybe a 4 or two. </p>

<p>Course Load: Almost all honors and AP's, except for English. </p>

<p>Extracurriculars: Marching Band throughout high school (possibly section leader this year), Stage Band (one of school's jazz bands), symphony orchestra, wind ensemble (highest band), tutoring throughout middle school, Started a business with friend which has become highly successful, two lifeguarding jobs every summer.</p>

<p>Volunteer Work: EMT on an ambulance (~1500 hours). Leadership position at the First Aid Squad (Cadet Captain). Also, plan to volunteer at a hospital this summer and do a one week program at a hospital which is for future doctors (includes shadowing, observing surgeries, attending resident lectures, etc.). </p>

<p>Awards: Discus Award finalist.</p>

<p>Hooks: Uncle went to rice for Masters in Music Composition. </p>

<p>Rice is my dream school and I hope I can get in. Feel free to share your comments on my chances on getting in. I may have left some extra-curriculars out because I am writing this in a slight rush. Thanks for your time and thanks to all that provide their opinions.<br>

<p>I would say you have a better than 75% chance of being accepted. Your ACT score is among the top 1%, and your GPA is solid. Your coursework is strong, but could be more rigorous. If you can take more AP classes that would help your case some more. </p>

<p>The EMT work is impressive and is something that you will want to focus on for your interview and essays. If I was you, I would discuss what you’ve learned, how your experiences have helped you with your class work, handling relationships with your peers, and the skills you’ve been able to implement because of this. Also, 1500 shows to the level you’re dedicated to the medical field.</p>
