I am an Indian student that is living in Egypt but have attended an American School all my life. I was wondering what my chances are at these universities and if it is a broad enough list?

Universities I am applying to:
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
University of California- Berkely
Univerisity of California- Los Angeles
Carnigie Mellon
University of Texas-Austin
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Purdue
Waterloo
Northeastern
University of British Colombia
University of Colorado Boulder

Underweight GPA: 3.41
School does not report weighted GPA or rank

Courses: Taking the full IB Diploma with HL Math, HL Physics and HL Chemistry with SL Econ, SL English and SL French.

ACT: Composite 28, super score 29 (Breakdown: 32 English, 29 Math, 25 Reading, 30 Science)

SAT2:
Physics:750
Math 2: 710

ECs:
Student Council for three years
Captain of Ultimate Frisbee club for four years
Honor Council
Varsity Volleyball for two years
Junior Varsity Badminton
Model United Nations for two years

your GPA is a little on the low side but i don’t think that will dramatically effect your chances of getting in…your ACT scores are not too bad either but your EC’s are lacking a bit too. how much did you accomplish in each EC’s? Because i heard that it is pretty useless to take some EC’s if you do not really make a difference or anything.

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, UCB. UCLA: Out of reach
Carnigie Mellon-reach
University of Texas-Austin: reach
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign: reach
Purdue-high match
Waterloo-I have no idea.
Northeastern-reach

FYI, strip off UMich and UC schools if you can’t pay. Do you need FA?

What is your intended major? Most of the schools on your list are reaches disregarding intended major though.

Intended major is Computer Engineering. Tuition is not a problem. And why are they out of reach? Due to GPA? Just to clear something up, I attend an International School in Egypt and the grading system is much harder than in the US. According to Naviance, besides UMich, UCs and CMU others are matches. What do you guys think?

Low gpa, low act AND lackluster ec

Your Naviance data are likely outdated and are not specific for engineering schools. For UMich, the admission average uwGPA for CoE is 3.9 and the mid 50 ACT is 31-34. Their admission rate was 20% last year, a significant drop from the 30% of a year ago. UIUC CS in Engineering is even more competitive with admission average ACT above 34 last year. The top 6 schools on your list are all reaches. Purdue may be a high match to low reach.

I don’t know much about the schools you’ve selected but the University of Michigan and Cal Berkeley are top notch schools that look for stellar transcripts. Just because yours is below average doesn’t automatically make you a deny however, I wouldn’t rely on being an international student to boost your chances. They will help but not that much. Most of the schools you’ve listed are fairly high on the ranking list of universities. Don’t go brand name shopping when looking for schools. I encourage you to stray away from that because there are so many excellent universities that might not have a high ranking but are fantastic institutions. Look for schools that you can picture yourself at and schools that will meet your needs. All in all, to answer your question about being admitted into the institutions you’ve listed I think all of the universities from University of Texas- Austin and below you have excellent chances of being admitted.
