I think I am maybe a little bit above the borderline of being accepted to Tulane EA but more realistically deferred. Nonetheless, here are my stats: 29 act( 31 english 29 math 28 reading 27 science) I took the act in october btw, 2.92 uw gpa and 3.5 weighted at one of the top schools in the nation(3.6 uw so far senior year), really good college essay and spent a few months writing my why tulane essay, attended regional event and spoke with admissions counselor, ECs include model un, captain of travel soccer team(state finalists), varsity soccer team for 4 years and captain for 2 years, volunteer at teen center at public library, ap scholar, taken 4 APs before senior year and 6 APs senior year( ap physics 1, ap calculus ab, ap government, ap literature and composition, ap macroeconomics, ap spanish) and every other non AP class i took was honors besides art, gym, and wellness. I think my uw gpa is the main hindrance, but what are my chances?
Also, I am a first gen college student and a minority if that adds any more weight to my application.
Also, will tulane consider the highest subscores from each act test? If so, I may fall in the 30-32 range
Tulane does not super score the ACT last time I checked. You do seem like a 50-50 or so applicant, although your significant number of AP courses might help a bit. But I think you have self-assessed pretty realistically.
Do you add to the geographic diversity?
Full pay or need a lot of aid?
Neither matters. Tulane likes getting geographic diversity, but doesn’t have to take it into account to know they will end up with it. Evidence? Unlike some other schools, Tulane is well known to not limit how many they accept from a particular high school and area. They have around a dozen students some years from single high schools in the Chicago and NYC area, after accepting more than two dozen from a single school and many dozens from the area.
Tulane is also need blind for admissions.
Thank you for the input! Should I take the ACT in December to try to reach for a few points higher than my 29 in case I get deferred?
I would. It can’t hurt to be signed up, and if you get a yes from Tulane before the test you can decide if you want to just blow it off at that point. You will have lost the money, but I suspect an acceptance will make that not hurt too much.
What’s the trend of your grades from freshman to junior year?
Pretty high freshman year, dipped second semester sophomore year, then it has returned to pretty high junior year and my grades are better first semester of senior year, with the most rigorous courses, than I’ve ever gotten
Does the fact that my superscored act is a 31 help at all because my composite is a 29…
Afraid not. Tulane does not superscore the ACT.
Should send my AP scores to Tulane? I just realized I didn’t do that. Or should I wait and see if I get deferred then send it afterward?
Might as well send them. If you get in they need them for credits and if you get deferred it doesn’t hurt for them to see the scores.
