Chance Me please

Hi! I’m a California senior and all replies are welcome, be honest!

My college list:
USC, UCLA, and UCSD. Those are the ones that I am looking into the most, but I might also apply to UCR (safety), UCI, San Francisco State, and Boston University. I’ve also contemplated UCSC and Brown (this is an out of ball park reach for me though).

Intended Major:
This is dependent upon the school I go to, I want to major in biology or human biology.

Stats:
US Citizen, Female, Hispanic/Latina (Mexican)
Rank 19/451 (top 5% and it would be higher but I am in a special program that prevents us from being higher)
Weighted GPA is 4.214
Unweighted GPA is 3.905 (Honors Pre-calc was rough)
Passed every AP test i’ve taken (4 in AP Lang, 3 for APHG, APUSH, APWH)
Intend on taking AP Gov, AP Lit, and AP Calc AB tests this year
Courses are mostly honors or advanced, since they don’t offer APs to freshmen, I also have courses like principles of biomedical science, microbiology, sports medicine, medical terminology, and Honors Anatomy and Physiology. I also took Intermediate Spanish 1 at a nearby community college.
SAT: taking again in November, but 1370, 690 EBRW and 680 Math

Extracurriculars (with slight description):
I’d like to note that I have been in these for all four years.
Health and Medical Careers Academy- a program that affects our courses and gears us towards the medical field. I am on the exec board for the academy (coordinator for a program w/in program).
Interact- Rotary’s child, we do community service. I was VP last year and President this year.
Student Leadership/ASB- We plan events for the school, deal w community service, staff appreciation, special needs, etc. I am in charge of my asb class, we have six. NOT ASB president, to clarify. I was in charge of ASB Blood Drives and community service last year.
UNICEF- Raise money for UNICEF foundation. I was treasurer last year, VP this year.
National Honor Society- Just in it, we do community service.
California Scholarship Federation- honestly, we don’t do much, but I’m in it.
HOSA, Future Health Professionals- we study/practice to compete at a convention. no role, just in it.

Extra:
HSF (Hispanic Scholarship Fund) Scholar- attended the youth leadership institute
My Campus Participant- partook in Loma Linda University program
Athletic Training Internship- connected to school, but I have around 100 hours
Life Care Center Internship- I start next month, but I will have well over 50 hours (it’s a senior living center)

LoR:
Counselor- 10/10 (she’s also my advisor for Interact so we’re close)
I’m handing out requests tomorrow to three or four teachers that will rate me well because they have known me four years and I spend time with them out of class.

I think that this was relatively thorough, but feel free to ask questions! Or feel free to suggest universities (preferably not religious).

UC Capped weighted and Fully weighted GPA?

URM status will not be helpful for the UC’s and Cal states. SAT score on the low side for UCLA, USC and UCSD which will be tough admits. Even UCI will be very competitive for your intended major. You have very good EC’s and equally good essays can help your chances.

@Gumbymom Thank you, I was not aware of that (my mom is the only one who has gone to college, but it was online). If I filled it out correctly, then my unweighted is 3.9 and my weighted is 4.1

SFSU is your only safety school at this point. UCR is a possibly a Safety but Biology is an impacted major. Overall you are a competitive applicant but the UC’s continue to be difficult admits. I would add UCR and UCSC to your list. Apply widely and best of luck. Unfortunately the 2019 admit rate data is not yet available.

Some UC statistical data:

2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 10%
UCLA: 9%
UCSD: 34%
UCSB: 38%
UCD: 41%
UCI: 38%
UCSC: 70%
UCR: 84%
UCM: 95%

2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCB:    1340-1540
UCLA:  1330-1550
UCSD:  1300-1520
UCSB:  1280-1520
UCD:    1230-1490
UCI:      1250-1510
UCSC:  1200-1450
UCR:     1130-1400
UCM:    1020-1290

2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.25
UCSD: 4.23
UCSB: 4.16
UCI: 4.13
UCD: 4.13
UCSC: 3.96
UCR: 3.90
UCM: 3.73

@Gumbymom that was definitely a reality check, I appreciate this so much!
