Chance Me Please...

Well I just got back from school, and I think this might just be the worse day of the semester. I actually thought I had a chance at getting into UVA before today, but now I'm pretty doubtful. Well tell me what you guys think:

3.82 W GPA (Ap- 4.5) (Honors 4.3)
*Sat: 680 Eng 720 Math 670 WR
*Play Tennis at a national level - Not good enough to play at UVA
*I Play at an international tennis academy about 20+ hours a week.
*National Honors Society Three years in a row.
*All school science award junior year
*Volunteer at Humane Society, Special Olympics, and Wheel Chair Tennis
* Vice-President-Junior Year
*Treasurer- Senior Year

*But here's the kicker... There is only 38-ish people in my grade...And my Percentile is something like high twenties.

Now it sounds bad...but that is completely due to the fact of my AWFUL 9th grade year. My 9th grade GPA was something like a 2.8. But in 10, 11, and now 12 grades Ive taken 8 APs and 4 Dual enrollment classes. All of which I've received A's.

Well thats the skinny of it...What do you guys think...am I predestinded to go to George Mason with my sub par stats...

You are IS? If so, I think you've got a shot at it. Your GPA shows an upward trend, and I really believe that schools notice that. You've challenged yourself with a good # of AP's. What kind of SAT's do you have. I wouldn't throw the towel in yet; you've got chance. Go for it!!

I just noticed I needed to include some much needed information:

*I am instate- NoVa- But I live and go to school at an International Tennis Academy (where I play tennis 20+ hours a week)
*I have a brother who just finished his engineering degree at UVA and who now goes to their Law School, and I also have a sister who is currently working on her PHD at UVA.
*Im taking my SAT II's in Jan where Ive consistently gotten in the low 700s in US history and high 600/low 700s in Math II...
Well thats all I can think of...

You're in because...1400 SAT, 3.82 UW GPA, EC's, Sports & In-State...your school rank is technically low but I don't see a problem.

Actually that 3.82 is weighted...(I think...If APs count as 4.5 and honors as 4.3 thats weighted right) ....I know its low... It would be a 4.-something if they counted my Dual Enrollment toward my gpa...but sadly they wont count it for anything except credit on my transcript...(don't ask me how that works)....

I think i heard a ....bump...

any one else :(

borderline

you are in

I know a lot about tennis I used to play a ton. What academy do you go to? Is it like Evert, or Bolletieri or St. Stephen's? What's your national ranking? Have you talked to the coach? Does he think you're good?

Tennis could put you over the edge if you're borderline.

Well, I go to Van Der Meer Tennis Academy... But yeah, I play around top 20/30 within the section, but my national ranking is 100% not good enough to play at UVA. They were at one point #1 NCAA last year.. There basically is no point in asking the coach.
I might just go to top academic DIII school, it might just be the best idea.

yea, you still have a shot at getting in but D1 southern schools are just ridonculous at tennis. I used to be top 100 but my parents totally burned me out before I turned 15 and now I just play for my high school 3 months a year. If I end up going D3 I'll try to walk on maybe, you sound like you'd be plenty good enough to play D3 and it's not as big of a commitment. With your 2070 if your serious about getting into UVA you'll probably need to retake, state schools are a lot more mechanical about admitting kids than D3 kids, so having the right numbers is key. Good luck wherever you end up going!
