Chance me please. :-)

1 reach - Georgetown University

others - Trinity, Swarthmore, Colorado College, Vassar, Wesleyan, preferably small liberal arts schools
safeties - Baylor, A&M, UT Austin

My counselor said that I have a better chance at larger schools like Vanderbilt and UC Berkeley.

ACADEMICS

9th: 89 unweighted, 89.882 weighted (1 preAP all year, 2 preAPs second semester)
10th: 79.786 unweighted, 83.357 weighted (5 preAPs)
11th: 86.167 unweighted, 96.333 weighted (5 APs, 1 preAP) for first semester at least
I know, I had a TERRIBLE sophomore year, but my grades are improving every grading cycle.

For combined freshman and sophomore year I have a 3.0968 unweighted GPA and 3.9032 weighted. For class rank, I was in the 81th percentile (178/948) freshman year and 69th (248/814) sophomore, I'm hoping to be at least 90th by the time I graduate.

TESTS

9th: 139 PSAT (45 CR, 49 M, 45 WS)
10th: 136 PSAT (42 CR, 51 M, 43 WS), 3 AP World History
11th: 181 PSAT (56 CR, 63 M, 62 WS)
Again, terrible sophomore year, I know.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Student Council 11th & 12th (member this year, running for Energy & Environment committee chair next year)
UIL Academics 9th-12th (4 years of math, 4 years of science, 3 years of social studies, 3 years of number sense, 1 year of calculator applications)
National Honor Society 10th-12th (I'm applying for officer next year, not sure which)
band 9th & 10th (I'm just not the band type)
class government 11th & 12th (parliamentarian this year, running for president next year)
FCCLA 9th & 10th (member 9th, secretary 10th)

BACKGROUND

first year high school graduate, let alone first year college student
My mom dropped out of high school sophomore year when she got pregnant, she is now legally disabled and on social security.
My dad dropped out in eighth grade, he is now two years into a fifteen year prison sentence for drugs.
I live with my mom, sister, niece, and nephew.
combined household income less than $20,000

I know my grades and tests are not the best, but there is a clear upward pattern. I know that I will have wonderful references, and I'm hoping that my background will turn out in my favor.

I want to be a politician (maybe start out as a US Representative.) I want to go to a top tier law school (Yale, Harvard, Columbia, etc.) As cliche as it sounds; there are a good number of things that I dislike in America, and I want to see them changed.

RANDOMS
I'm not sure if any of these will make a difference, but whatever;
gay, vegetarian, agnostic, left-handed, white

AWARDS
2nd place Social Studies team at UIL Academic District 5 Competition, hoping to get more awards this year and next

SUMMER
I'm hoping to attend Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Rice, or some other top-tier summer program next summer.

Your low income status might be appealing, but academics always come first. You will have a hard time with Georgetown

If you want to be a politician, my advice is to go to a large public university in the state in which you plan to live after graduation. Get excellent grades, and get a high position in student government. The contacts you’ll make and the lessons you’ll learn will help you in your political career.

Afterward go to a top law school, then return and start your political career in the state where you went to college.

GTown - reach
Vassar - reach
UT - reach
Rice - reach
A&M - match

SATS kill you and I don’t know others,

Georgetown, Rice and Swarthmore are definite reaches
Your safeties are good though
and I think you’re pretty much a match/low reach at the other colleges because of your unique circumstances and the fact that youve excelled despite facing hardships in life
Good luck and i hope you get into your dream school (:
