Chance me please!

I'm planning on applying to Stanford, Pomona, Pitzer, Reed / University of La Verne, Willamette University / Brown, Harvard, Yale

(the list is split into three groups: I am definitely going and these are my top choices (Stanford is my dream, I'm thinking about EA) / I like these places, but if I get in somewhere better, I won't go / reaches, to the max, if I get in, I'll be a little surprised, and pleased)

My biggest worries are my ECs and my SAT scores at this moment (I will be taking them again)

SAT: 1850 (710 writing, 560 verbal, 580 math) (absolutely pitiful, but I'm taking them again and have been studying like a fiend) (and I will make sure that I don't work til 11 the night before, like I did this time) (I'm surprised I made it through the four hours without passing out lol)
GPA: unweighted 3.9, weighted 4.1ish, I think
Rank: top 10% for sure, maybe 5%, we don't rank at my school (or at least I don't know my rank)
AP: World History 4, US History 4, English Lang 5
Senior Year: I'm taking three more AP classes (I don't have any other choices, so I can't take more) Stats, English Lit, and Gov

Honors: AP Scholar with Honor (maybe with distinction if I do well this year)
This is the part that I'm most worried about, because I don't think I have anything else.
Could I list the other AP honors I got? Like, could I say I got AP Scholar my junior year? (I saw that on someone else's post lol)

Quick tangent: Writing is my passion, and I have decided to make that the most important part of my application, to set myself apart. Is that a good idea? Also, if I have won any writing contests, could that go into Honors? And can I put participation in writing contests into ECs?

And now we are back on topic:

ECs: Job at movie theater for a year (20 hrs/week), Creative Writing Club for two years (I'm now President), I created a website for the club my junior year, Book Club for one year, Key Club for one year

Volunteer: at day care for a summer (100 hrs ish), some volunteering in Key Club, the amount I have may go up, since I need hours for school

My essay will probably be about writing, and I have a lot of confidence in how it will turn out. I've already started on it, and I have my amazing English teacher to proofread and offer advice.

My recs will also be fantastic, my teachers absolutely love me (especially the ones I chose)

My counselor and I aren't super close, but she knows my grades and my participation, and I will probably become her best friend this fall.

State: WA
School: Public, noncompetitive, really big school, most students end up at community college
Enthnicity: African American
Gender: Female
Income: 30,000 (financial aid, here I come!)

Re-taking the SAT is probably a good idea (although it’s a good score - I’m also impressed that you didn’t pass out either! Taking them while tired is rough). I wonder - have you tried the ACT? I don’t know if it’s offered near you, but I think that it’s a good alternative because the questions are more straightforward, so some people find it easier than the SAT.

In terms of your chances as they stand right now, here is how I see them:
Stanford, Brown, Harvard, Yale - all reaches, but they’re reaches for anyone because of the sheer number of applicants.
Pomona - reach, but slightly more probable than the others, especially because as an LAC your background in the humanities and your love for writing will help you.
Pitzer - match.
Reed - similar to Pomona, but slightly more of a match.
University of La Verne/Willamette: Safeties

As both a URM and a low-income student, you may get a leg-up as well. Best of luck, and good uck with your senior year! Hope I helped.

I understand that you’re retaking the SAT and that you didn’t take it to your full potential the first time, but you should still understand that you won’t have any chance at Stanford, Brown, Harvard and Yale unless you score several hundred points higher.

You should take the ACT. It should help a lot. If you can get a score in the 30s or an SAT of 2050+ you will be a competitive applicant. You will write a great essay if you love to write. That will help a lot. Good luck.
Would you please chance me back?

Getting an SAT of 2050 wont get you in at Stanford, Harvard, or Yale. Good shot at the others but for those top three you need a 2250+ SAT or 34+ ACT to even have a chance.
