Chance me, Possible to NEU or UMich?

GPA4.9, ACT33, SAT1400(very low, only took once, didn’t want to submit, but GC recommended to submit because Math is 800/800. ) 8 AP, 7 5s, 1 is 4. Math and chemistry major, NHS. Lot of community volunteer work. Work in summer, intern at school, leadership to a state project competition, lot of art awards in state/local colleges/ HS, HS band, freshman HS swim team. I feel my chance is very low because I have seen so many people with high stats ( 1500+SAT, 33+ACT) . Regret to send SAT. Do I still have a chance to UMich and NEU?

A long waiting until March notification….

So many talented people are here with high stats and awesome ECs… so feel like the chance is very little….

Hi there

I assume you’ve applied RD? What major?

For NEU - reach out to your regional AO and express your strong interest in attending. Explain why it’s a good fit. If it’s your top choice say so explicitly and commit to enrolling if admitted (assuming the finances work out)

Not so sure about UMich. Probably better chances if you’re in state, but it’s going to be harder either way.

Is there anything new since this thread? Do we still have a chance?

Was your S deferred at Michigan and NEU? Has he sent in any more apps?

Thanks @Mwfan1921. Wasn’t aware OP already had another thread open. Maybe mods can merge these threads.

@emilychris, are you saying your son has not applied to any safeties?

Applied some safeties. These two r the top choices.

I am not sure how to interpret a 4.9 GPA. It is not possible where we live. How many B’s or B+'s are included in this? Is this all A’s over I guess 3 1/2 years of high school?

One daughter was accepted to NEU with what was probably slightly lower stats (two B+'s over the first 3 1/2 years of high school, both were 89’s) and an SAT that was only very marginally higher. However it would have been full pay and she decided to go elsewhere with merit aid.

Are you out of state for Michigan?

I would guess that neither are safeties, but that both are possible.

Need more info: state/region, gender, class rank, ORM vs URM status, financial aid need. What type of high school? How many other students from the HS matriculate at these two colleges? What does the scatterplot look like?

The more info you give, the easier it will be to provide chances.
