Chance me, pretty please? :)

After much soul-searching and deep introspection, I have broken down and decided to start my own chances thread.

My dream schools are Brown, Yale, Northwestern, and the UMich Honors Program!

I've taken the SAT and ACT once and plan to take assorted SAT IIs soon.
SAT: 2280 (800 CR, 760 W, 760 M)
ACT: 34 (36 R, 36 W, 34 S, 31 M)
PSAT: 229 (hoping for NMSF/NMF!)

I took all honors my freshman and sophomore years and am now a junior IB full diploma student (part of my school's first-ever IB class). I've also taken four years of theater classes!

All As (and one A-minus in sophomore year math)

Extra-Curriculars (arranged by year for your convenience):
Freshman: spring play (lead role), current events club, speech team, volunteer for the friendship circle (working with kids with special needs)
Sophomore: soph class secretary, fall/winter musicals, spring play, speech team, current events club (vice president), friendship circle, big sis/little sis program at school
Junior: executive student council vice president, fall/winter musicals, spring play (lead role), speech team (state qualifier), current events club, big sis/little sis, christmas service trip to kentucky

and senior year I plan on pursuing all of the same activities- I was recently elected executive student council president and am extremely excited about that!

I suppose it might be relevant to tell you that I am a white female from the Midwest.

Please let me know what you think! I'm tough- I can take it!

Any thoughts at all on any of those schools would be appreciated :)

Northwestern seems like a match, but Yale and Brown are a reach. Don’t really know about UMich. You have great extracurriculars and the IB program will give you an advantage, but there is no guarantee. Good luck.

Sorry to be nit-picky, but 800 + 760 + 760 equals 2320.

Your numbers (SAT, ACT, grades) are high enough for the standards of the schools you’re thinking about.

However, your ECs might cause some trouble. Not sure about UMich, but for Northwestern, Brown, and Yale it’s a problem. I can’t really tell what your passion is by looking at your ECs; they are all good, but they lack a common theme. If you’re passionate about business, then make your ECs geared toward that. If you’re passionate about poetry, then start a poetry circle at your school. Something to show that you’re truly motivated in a certain area.

I know that everyone says you should be “well-rounded” and try to be involved in a little bit of everything. However, that will only take you so far. Schools like the Ivies are not necessarily looking for the most well-rounded applicants. They pick and choose people who are extremely dedicated in certain areas to form a whole student body that is well-rounded overall.

Just something to consider. But like I said, your stats are Ivy-caliber. Just work on the ECs and you’re definitely a strong candidate for any school you apply to. :] Best of luck!

thank you :)

and, yes, I did the math wrong- i got a 2280 (800, 740, 740)!

my biggest passions are theatre and student council, for what that’s worth.
