Hi! Looking for people to chance me for:
University of Richmond, UCLA, USC, Virginia Tech, John Hopkins, University of Michigan, and William and Mary
I want to major in Biology with a minor in Biochemistry. I am currently a junior in high school, but I want to start seeing what my chances might be with the below information (which includes senior year schedule) and if I were to add a few more extra-curriculars and improve SAT/ACT scores. Thanks so much BTW: My top pick is Richmond!
GPA: 4.3 Weighted
Credits: 6 English, 5 Math, 7 Science, 4 Foreign Language, 5 History, 4 Electives (Art, Medical, Psych)
Dual-Credit: I have will have taken 7 college level classes by next year- including Math, Art, Science, English and History.
Extra-Curricular: Class Secretary, Academic Bowl, 3 Clubs, All-American Scholar, Cheering, Tennis, Volunteering w/ Kids, Elderly and Animals, teach art to kids on the side.
ACT: 34
SAT: 2200 (All-Around)
**I am planning on taking the SAT Biology Subject test and the ACT/SAT 3 more times before I graduate
I think you have a good enough chance at all of those schools to go ahead and apply. Johns Hopkins and UCLA, of course, will be more picky than the rest, but you still have a solid shot IMO. Go see the campuses, write solid essays, and then relax.
Good luck, and remember to stay classy
You have strong test scores and an interesting array of extracurriculars. Most colleges will look at unweghted GPA or look at GPA in context of your school. Since each school weights differently, I have no idea what that would translate to in terms of unweighted. You have a good chance, I might suggest however that there is really that much need to take the SAT/ACT 3 more times. You could try and demonstrate your proficiency in chemistry or mathematics if you are applying to the biochemistry programs by taking the sat II however.
It’s a 4.0 unweighted. I am planning on taking maybe the biology, math II and chemistry subject tests. I think that those would benefit me.
You would definitely have a good chance at most of those schools, if everything goes according to what you expect. I can only really chance you for UCLA and Johns Hopkins because these two are the only ones I’m fairly knowledgeable about.
UCLA: You shouldn’t have a problem with this if you apply to College of Arts and Sciences. The only issue might be that you are an out-of-state applicant. However, even taking that into account you should still be strong. I’d say match.
Johns Hopkins: This school is notoriously good for biology. Judging from your profile though you have a good chance! Remember to really polish those essays. I’ve noticed Hopkins has placed a lot of emphasis on them. You can even look on their site and they have a whole section about them. Definitely take that SAT II Bio, but also maybe consider another test for Math II or Chemistry. I’d say high match to low reach.
All in all you would make a fairly strong applicant, but don’t take the ACT and SAT more times than you need/want to.
Good luck!
@BlankFusion Thanks so much! I really am aiming for UCLA. I will definitely take your advice on Chemistry and Math II SAT IIs. I appreciate your feedback. Moving to California has always been a good goal and dream of mine so I will definitely work even harder to make myself the best applicant possible. John Hopkins would be amazing as well. Thanks for the advice on essays! I appreciate your comment and help Best to you!
Do you live in California? It doesn’t seem like you do. The only way you will be able to go to UCLA is if you are full pay.
@CaliCash No I don’t. I can full pay.
