Chance Me: Shooting for Williams College?

I'm a soon-to-be rising senior, and this is my first-ever post on College Confidential! I don't think it's too early to be concerned about the admissions process, so I was wondering if any of you could chance me for Williams College? I've visited the campus, and it really is a lovely place. I'm also wondering about Bowdoin College as well, another I've taken a liking to.

As for my AP scores for junior year, I've predicted them based on my preparedness and performance in the class.

I go to a competitive New York public high school in a small town that is ranked as the best in the county, if it means anything.

Unweighted GPA: 3.8
SAT: CR (740), M (670), W (760) I hope to take it again!
SAT II: World History (740), U.S. History (700) I will take more next year

Freshmen year: All honors except Biology.
Sophomore year: All honors, AP Art History (5).
Junior Year: All honors except math, AP Environmental Science (4), AP English Lang (5), APUSH (5)
Senior year: AP European History, AP English Lit, AP Psychology, Calculus Honors, etc.

I also held a job as a cashier, working 25 hours per week, at my town's local grocery store during the summer of freshmen year.
As for summer programs, I participated in a photography youth program at SUNY Purchase.

So...chance me? :D

Definitely retake the SATs to get math well into the 700s for Williams, Bowdoin is a bit less demanding.

Otherwise, would I fit? I may not be an athlete (which I’ve heard Williams likes…) but I’ve held leadership in a few activities, all of which I’m passionate about.

Wait. Are you a sophomore or junior? Soon to be rising senior? Sounds like a sophomore…?

Regardless, so far you have a decent shot, but I’d retake the SAT to be on the safe side…

As you have probably heard from other CCers, admissions is not solely reliant on stats. Your essays, especially for Williams, will count for a lot. I don’t know of any cut-off score for your SATs, but you should certainly try to score the highest you can, without exceeding three sittings. In my opinion, AP scores do not help or hurt at Williams; you do not get “credit” for any AP test you take. What largely determines placement into a higher-level class is the placement test you’ll take during freshman orientation.

I like your ECs, btw. They’re focused on the performing arts for the most part, and Williams seems to be quite fond of thespians.

On another note: the top three states represented by the student body at Williams are MA, NY, and CA, so take that into consideration. Last but not least (and I hate to be the one to say this), ethnic/socioeconomic background plays a perhaps not-so-minor role in the selection process. The college is looking for some diversity, after all.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
