No hooks or anything =/ And income bracket is relatively high. OH & I'm an Asian-Indian male

Yeah I know my academics suck! Bad GPA, awful SAT's, & mediocre AP's. But idk if being internationally ranked in tkd is going to help a lot? Reallllllly reallllly wanna go to Dartmouth!!!!

Those are not sucky academics, if you won’t get accepted with 2220 SATs then you won’t accepted with 2350 either. There’s a certain level where they know that you can do the work.

Don’t get too bogged down by scores. Your grades and scores are quite solid (might want to try taking another subject test though, as the Spanish is on the low side). Since ECs are your strength, you’ll want to play those out and highlight those in your application. You really don’t need a 2350 on your SAT1s or a 4.0 GPA to get in.

Your academics are fine. It will come down to who else applies from your school / how recognized your high school is by Dartmouth. It will also come down to how compelling Dartmouth finds your ECs / essays / other subjective factors to be.

One more thing-- I am a little concerned for your well being if you think a 2220 and being in the top 5% classifies as “sucky.” Hopefully you will be more relaxed now that 1st semester is about to end.

You do not have “sucky” stats. Are there people who get rejected with higher stats, sure. But there are also people who get in with lower stats. Asian-indian from CA you are up against a pretty competitive pool. That’s true. You are by no means a shoo-in. But a big thing for Dartmouth is they like well rounded people, who are going to make use of everything Dartmouth offers, not just its awesome academics. You want to convey yourself as someone who is smart, but also someone who can contribute to life on campus by thriving socially, academically, athletically, artistically, in various organizations, or whatever. I don’t know if you’ve interviewed yet, but you don’t want to come across as someone who is going to freak out about how they “suck” the first time they get a B. You are smart. You probably can literally kick a**, what with the Tae Kwon Do. Remember that. Waiting to find out actually does suck, so try not to let it get to you too badly.

Calm down. Breathe. Your AP scores are not mediocre/awful, you are averaging a 4. That’s good. Your SAT’s are good. Your GPA is good. You have shown leadership in track and cc, which is good, and you are obviously passionate about tkd.

Will you get in to Dartmouth? Maybe. But they certainly aren’t going to look at your application and laugh. A lot of it does have to do with how they shape their class. So if you don’t get in, its not because you wouldn’t have done well or aren’t smart enough. And if you do, its because they see something in you that makes you a good fit.

Well, if you really want to get in, you should stay positive! Don’t call your scores “sucky”, “awful”, or “mediocre” when they’re in the margin of error for perfection. It makes it seem like you’re looking for approval and compliments. I bet colleges are looking for confident people who know they did everything they could and got great scores (which, I will give you, you did)!
